Juventus vs Sporting CP Highlights

Both teams were aware that the UEFA Europa League (UEL) was their best chance to secure a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League, given their current standings in their domestic leagues. Juventus, who had never lost a UEL match at home, started positively with Chiesa’s shot saved by Adán after Di María's long pass. Sporting Lisbon, having eliminated Premier League leaders Arsenal in the previous round, knew they could pose a threat and grew into the game after absorbing early pressure. Morita and Coates both had attempts saved by Szczęsny, while Gonçalves and Santos also came close.

Sporting Lisbon looked confident, and Juventus struggled to keep possession. Szczęsny's injury just before half-time only added to the frustration for the home team. In the second half, Sporting Lisbon continued to push forward, with Gonçalves’ long-range effort saved by Perin. Despite Juventus’ unbeaten UEL record at home, Sporting Lisbon looked dangerous and determined not to settle for a draw.

Juventus vs Sporting CP Highlights

The game seemed to be heading towards a stalemate, but Juventus took the lead against the run of play when Gatti scored from close range. The Old Lady of Turin will carry a slim advantage into the second leg in Lisbon, while Sporting Lisbon will aim to overturn the deficit and secure their place in the next round of the UEL.

Juventus vs Sporting CP Summary

Juventus attempted to assert their dominance early on with their home field advantage by pressuring Sporting Lisbon right after the opening whistle. Milik had the first shot in the 5th minute, but it missed the target. Chiesa then took a dangerous corner that goalkeeper Adan struggled to save.

However, Juventus gradually lost their grip on the game, and the remainder of the first half was fairly even with neither team creating any real opportunities. Both teams were also forced to make reluctant substitutions; Juventus goalkeeper Szczesny left the field due to health issues, and St. Juste from the away team was injured.

Juventus vs Sporting CP Summary

In the second half, Sporting Lisbon almost surprised Juventus with Pote's shot, but substitute goalkeeper Perin made an excellent save. Juventus then regained control of the game but was unable to make any headway in their attacks.

In the 62nd minute, Coach Allegri substituted Vlahovic for Milik, bringing fresh energy to the home team's attack. This change paid off quickly, as the Serbian striker won an aerial battle in the 73rd minute and set up Gatti to score the opening goal for Juventus. After conceding, Sporting Lisbon ramped up their attacks to find an equalizer but were unable to capitalize on their chances.

The match ended with Juventus winning 1-0 against Sporting Lisbon, giving the Old Lady of Turin a slight advantage before the second leg on April 21st. The winner of this match will face the winner of the game between Manchester United and Sevilla (which ended in a 2-2 draw in the first leg).
