The Miami Heat have secured their future with star big man Bam Adebayo, announcing on Sunday that he has signed a contract extension. The deal, reportedly worth $166 million over three years, ensures Adebayo remains with the franchise through 2028-29.

Adebayo, a three-time All-Star and five-time All-Defensive Team selection, earned his first All-Defensive First Team honors in the 2023-24 season. He was also a finalist for the Kia Defensive Player of the Year award last season. Adebayo's impressive stats included averaging 19.3 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.1 steals per game, shooting 52.1% overall and a career-best 35.7% from 3-point range.

Miami's starting center and captain, who has been with the Heat since they drafted him in 2017, has approximately $72 million remaining on his current contract, which spans two more years.

Adebayo, a member of the U.S. Olympic team that won gold at the Tokyo Games three years ago, is set to compete in the Paris Games next month as part of the team. He is currently in the third year of his five-year, $163 million contract.
