Isaiah Hartenstein Steps Up for the Thunder
Concern about the Oklahoma City Thunder's frontcourt in the absence of Chet Holmgren has been quickly alleviated by the return and exceptional performance of Isaiah Hartenstein.
Hartenstein has made an immediate impact, recording a double-double in all five of his appearances. More importantly, he has helped the Thunder win four out of five games, putting them back on top in the Western Conference standings.
Returning from a fractured hand weeks ahead of schedule, Hartenstein is averaging 15.2 points, 13.8 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game in his five appearances this season.
His influence goes beyond just his dominant play in the paint. Hartenstein has also showcased his ability to facilitate in the pick-and-roll with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, a skill he demonstrated last season with the Knicks.
The 7-footer from Germany is on track for career highs in multiple categories, contributing to a team that's already one of the league's defensive powerhouses. Oklahoma City ranks in the top five in steals, deflections, and loose balls recovered.
Since Hartenstein’s return, the Thunder have posted a 15-5 record. His stability at the center position also allows OKC to ease Holmgren back into the rotation when he's ready to return.
