Kings to Acquire DeMar DeRozan in Three-Team Sign-and-Trade Deal
DeMar DeRozan is set to join the Kings in a three-team sign-and-trade deal, bringing with him a three-year window of leadership and clutch performance.

The Sacramento Kings have finalized a deal to acquire veteran free agent DeMar DeRozan in a sign-and-trade agreement worth $74 million over three years. The transaction involves sending Harrison Barnes to the San Antonio Spurs and Chris Duarte to the Chicago Bulls, as officially announced by the teams on Monday.

Here's how the trade breaks down:

Kings receive:

  • DeMar DeRozan

Spurs receive:

  • Harrison Barnes

Bulls receive:

  • Chris Duarte
  • Two second-round picks

DeRozan, a six-time All-Star, comes to Sacramento after averaging 24 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.3 assists for the Bulls last season. He was a runner-up to Stephen Curry for the NBA's Kia Clutch Player of the Year award.

With this move, the Kings bolster their roster alongside one-time All-Star De’Aaron Fox, All-Star center Domantas Sabonis, and rising young forward Keegan Murray. DeRozan, a three-time All-NBA selection, brings extensive experience from his tenure with the Toronto Raptors, San Antonio Spurs, and Chicago Bulls over his 15-season career, where he has maintained averages of 21.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists in 1110 NBA games.

In return, the Spurs acquire Barnes to complement their roster alongside new arrival Chris Paul and Kia Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama. Barnes, who posted averages of 12.2 points and three rebounds for the Kings, brings efficiency shooting percentages of 47.4% overall and 38.7% from 3-point range.

Meanwhile, Chicago moves towards a youth-oriented strategy, parting ways with DeRozan as they continue their rebuild following the acquisition of 21-year-old playmaker Josh Giddey from Oklahoma City earlier in the offseason. Duarte, an All-Rookie honoree in 2021-22 with the Indiana Pacers, joins the Bulls after a stint with the Kings marked by challenges with injuries and playing time during Sacramento's resurgence.
