Lakers Star Anthony Davis Leaves Raptors Game Due to Eye Injury
Anthony Davis headed to the Los Angeles Lakers' locker room midway through the third quarter on Sunday after taking a blow to the face while attempting to block a dunk from Toronto’s Jakob Poeltl.
The nine-time All-Star was later ruled out for the remainder of the game due to an eye injury.
Davis made a one-handed block on Poeltl’s dunk attempt, but Poeltl’s off-hand struck Davis in the face. While the Lakers' home crowd cheered, Davis immediately fell to the floor in clear pain, holding his face. He remained down for about a minute before rising and walking to the locker room.
Davis had been off to a stellar start this season, sparking early MVP discussions. Before the injury, he had 22 points, four rebounds, and two blocks in the game.
Jaxson Hayes replaced Davis in the rotation, making an immediate impact with three dunks and a layup as the Lakers extended their lead.
Davis entered the game as the NBA's leading scorer at 32.4 points per game, along with 11.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists. He had already posted six 30-point games this season.
Davis had missed the previous Wednesday's game in Memphis due to a bruised left heel. Though he has a history of injuries, he played in a career-high 76 games last season.
