Pistons' Jaden Ivey Has Surgery on Broken Left Fibula

Pistons guard Jaden Ivey underwent successful surgery on Thursday at Henry Ford Hospital to repair a broken fibula in his left leg.
“I promise to come back even better,” Ivey shared in a social media post. “The recovery starts now #DetroitBasketball.”
He is scheduled to be reevaluated in four weeks.
The injury occurred in the fourth quarter of Detroit's 105-96 win against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night. Ivey was hurt when Orlando's Cole Anthony slipped while both players reached for the ball. Anthony's momentum caused him to collide with Ivey’s planted leg, sending the 22-year-old to the floor in clear pain. The team's medical staff rushed to his aid.
To shield the injury from public view, training staff held up towels, and players from both teams formed a circle around Ivey. After a lengthy delay, he was taken off the court on a stretcher, with a towel covering the injury.
“It is tough for all of us,” Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff said. “There’s no better person or teammate than J.I., and no one cares more about this than he does. I give the guys credit for getting it done — they care about him and didn’t want to let him down.”

Players from both teams offered comfort to Ivey and Anthony, who were visibly shaken by the incident.
“It was devastating,” said the Magic’s Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, per The Detroit News. “I didn’t really see what happened, but I know that Cole dove for the ball, and Ivey happened to be there and hit the floor. At first, I thought it was just a leg cramp, but it turned out to be worse...
“My prayers go out to him, and I hope he makes a full recovery and gets back healthy. Ivey is a great player. He was playing well tonight, and unfortunately, that happened. We’re all just praying for him.”
Ivey led the Pistons with 22 points.
Drafted by Detroit with the No. 5 overall pick in 2022, the former Purdue standout had been enjoying a breakout season. He averaged 17.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and four assists across 30 games. He also set career highs in field goal percentage (46%) and 3-point shooting (40.9%).
