Steph Curry Gets Huge 1-Year Extension from Warriors for Season When He Turns 38
The Golden State Warriors have handed Stephen Curry a jaw-dropping one-year extension that will certainly turn heads.
Curry’s new deal, worth $62.6 million, will add to his current contract, his agent confirmed to ESPN. This extension builds on Curry's existing contract, which runs through the 2025-26 season and pays him $55.8 million for the upcoming season, with the final year valued at just under $60 million.
As Curry continues to see his salary rise season after season, this extension ensures his earnings remain substantial through 2026-27. Due to the league’s “over 38” rule, which limits contracts to a maximum of three years for players turning 38 during the term, this is the most the Warriors can offer their star.

At 36, Curry is defying age with his continued All-Star caliber performance. Fresh off a successful stint with Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he delivered a game-sealing three-pointer against France in the gold-medal match, Curry is gearing up for his 16th NBA season—all with the Warriors, the team that drafted him from Davidson in 2009.
This season will bring significant change for Stephen Curry, as Klay Thompson, his renowned "Splash Brother" and key contributor to the Warriors' four championships since 2015, has joined the Dallas Mavericks in the offseason.
Last season, the Warriors struggled, finishing 10th in the Western Conference with a 46-36 record and falling short of the playoffs after losing in the Play-In Tournament.
With Thompson's departure, Curry faces the challenge of leading a restructured team aiming to return to championship contention. Despite these adjustments, Golden State has ensured Curry's place remains firmly anchored with the team. The new extension underscores their commitment to the future Hall of Famer, making it clear that no other team will be able to lure him away anytime soon.
