Suns Star Kevin Durant Set for MRI After Left Ankle Sprain

Phoenix Suns All-Star Kevin Durant was helped to the locker room with 6:57 remaining in the third quarter of Sunday night’s game against Houston after a collision with the Rockets’ Jabari Smith Jr.
Smith was called for a foul under the Phoenix basket as Durant fell to the floor. The 6-foot-10 forward eventually stood up but was unable to put weight on his left leg. Replays suggested he may have stepped on Smith’s foot during the fall.
Following Houston’s 148-109 victory, Suns coach Mike Budenholzer confirmed Durant will undergo an MRI on his left ankle Monday and will not travel with the team to Milwaukee for Tuesday night’s game. The Suns are also set to face Boston and New York in the coming week.
With just two weeks left in the regular season and six games remaining, Phoenix already faced an uphill battle to secure the final Western Conference play-in spot, trailing Sacramento by 1.5 games.
Before his exit, Durant played 23 minutes, recording 11 points and eight rebounds. Earlier this season, he moved into eighth place on the NBA's all-time scoring list.
