The Portuguese club seemed to step a foot into the knockout stage when successfully holding back Atletico Madrid in the first half. There was no goal during the first 45 minutes no matter that both teams played tenaciously. In addition, that key striker Luis Suarez of Atletico had to leave the pitch early since the 13th minute due to his injury made Porto have more advantages.
However, everything turned around in the second half. Atletico Madrid began to control the game better. After the corner kick of Lemar, Griezmann was right near Porto’s net and the first goal of the match was scored in the 56th minute.

The last minutes of the game came and the score was still 1-0 for Los Colchoneros. However, it was not wrong when saying that the best part of the game started from then. Atletico had a certain spot to join Liverpool in the round of 16 at that time.

3. Man of the Match
Antoine Griezmann is voted the UEFA Player of the Match. UEFA Technical Observer Vera Pauw commented: “Not only did he score the only goal of the game, but he also had to adapt to play in different positions. Especially in the second half, he was the core player who not only constantly kept the pressure on going forward but kept the left-wing closed as well when his side had to switch to a 4-4-1 system. It was a great move from Simeone (Atletico’s manager) to switch Griezmann to become the most attacking player central when he later changed to 5-3-1 system.”
