Man Utd vs Burnley Preview

Man Utd vs Burnley Prediction: 2-0

Man Utd are no longer “monsters” in the Premier League but they have lost their high form in recent years. This season, their performances have been not too persuasive, even when facing weaker rivals. Since Ralf Rangnick took over the first team, Red Devils’ playing style has changed a lot but that was not enough to help the team to get impressive victories.

In the latest 4 games of MUFC in all competitions, they just earned 1 goal for a game and won thanks to their luck. Therefore, to affirm their power and to gain a spot in the Top 4 in the Premier League, they need to connect better and get maximum points in matches against underdog teams. A jubilant win over the Clarets is necessary for the Red Devils to regain their high form and spirit.

Burnley, meanwhile, were also not highly appreciated. They have been managing in the relegation group this season with bad results. Sean Dyche’s squad were standing 18th place with just 11 points after 15 games, including 6 losses, 8 draws and only 1 win.

The Clarets have not played any game since December 12th due to the Covid-19 pandemic’s bad effects. They had more time to relax but less chance to compete directly against opponents. They were predicted to meet a lot of difficulties when travelling to Old Trafford to face the Manchester side.

Man Utd v Burnley

Man Utd 3-1 Burnley

XI line-ups:

  • Man United: David De Gea, Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly (Raphaël  Varane 66'), Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay, Mason Greenwood (Diogo Dalot 81'), Jadon Sancho, Edinson Cavani, Cristiano Ronaldo (Fred 90'+3).
  • Burnley: Wayne Hennessey, Matthew Lowton, Ben Mee,  James  Tarkowski, Charlie Taylor,  Aaron Lennon (Matěj Vydra 74'), Jack Cork (Dale Stephens 58'), Jóhann Gudmundsson, Ashley Westwood, Chris Wood, Dwight McNeil (Erik Pieters 84').

Taking their home advantage, Man Utd players attacked overwhelmingly right after the kick-off whistle resounded. In the 6th minute, Shaw had an exact long pass for Ronaldo to rush to Burnley’s domain but the ball was over the net.

However, the Red Devil only needed two more minutes to gain a real goal. Scott McTominay saw the ball kindly fall in his path on the edge of the box and rapidly placed the ball in the corner for the perfect start for the hosts.

Red Devils continued playing more impressively and putting Hennessey in caution. The visitors also had some counterattack opportunities but they were denied by Reds’ focusing defenders.

In the 27th minute, Sancho picked the ball up off Shaw before embarking on a solo run and then tucking the ball into the far corner of the net. It was 2-0 for the home team. However, the goal was considered an own goal of Burnley’s Ben Mee

Ronaldo then made it 3-0 for Man Utd in the 35th minute. McTominay's effort rebounded to Ronaldo’s feet who had the easy task of tapping the ball into an empty net once again. This is the first time that the Red Devils have scored 3 goals in the first half since February.

Ronaldo celebrates his goal

Burnley managed to find a goal at Old Trafford and that happened in the 28th minute of the game. Thanks to a fine solo run and finish of Aaron Lennon, the Clarets reduced the deficit and made it 3-1.

Entering the second half, both teams still managed to attack and shoot. McTominay had a great night with an outstanding performance. The Scotland player had another impressive finish in the 63rd minute but his kick was saved by Henessy.

In the 66th minute, Rangnick let Raphael Varane join the game, replacing Eric Bailly with an injury. The appearance of the French defender helped the home team to play more solidly. However, there was not any goal scored in the second half and the game finished with a 3-1 score for the Red Devils.

Man Utd win persuasively

With this wonderful win, Manchester United earned 31 points in total and climbed the 6th position on the 2021-22 Premier League’s standings. They have been having 4 points less than the Top 4 Arsenal who played more than them a match.
