Newcastle United is now the richest football club in the world due to being taken over by Saudi Arabian owners. To concretize the club’s ambition as soon as possible, the Magpies are rumored to rule the roots in the forthcoming winter transfer window. Some outstanding names have been put on their shortlist and Timo Werner is one of them. 

Since the appearance of Romelu Lukaku at Stamford Bridge, Werner’s position has partly become uncertain. He has had a tough period at Chelsea after signing his deal for the club from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2020 with a fee of £47.5m. The 25-year-old striker has only contributed 14 goals in 60 games for the Blues. That not being played frequently for the club and having the same agent to Newcastle’s midfielder Fabian Schar are the main reasons making rumors of Timo Wermer to Newcastle sound possible. However, the German player has affirmed that his ability to leave Chelsea, at least in the winter transfer window, is unlikely. 

Timo Werner plays less when Lukaku returns to Chelsea

Werner persists he has been disappointed by his lack of playing time this season. However, he won't make a hasty decision about his future. He shared: "The last weeks at Chelsea have been difficult for me. I fell behind and had to fight my way back. In a career, things always go up and down, but you learn to deal with it.”

He also confirmed that he would give everything in training to force his way back in. He added: “Of course, I can't be satisfied if I don't play. I want to be a regular starter for a big team but I'm not saying I'm desperate to leave if I don't start 10 or 15 games before Xmas...I have to look at the big picture to make my decision.”

Werner shared that he did not intend to leave Chelsea despite his substitution. In reality, he has gradually become an important factor in the Blues’ line-up. Before international games happened, the German star started in 3 consecutive games for Chelsea. Timo Werner goals against Aston Villa and Southampton were really important to the win of his team. 

After the winning game against Tottenham Hotspur in Premier League, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel also commented that Werner could combine with Lukaku to make a formidable duo on the pitch. He praised Werner like: “To be dangerous, score goals, to assist and to open spaces with aggressive runs.”

At the moment, Werner is still in great form when playing in the international series for the Germany national team. He has scored double for the Die Roten in the impressive winning game against North Macedonia. Obviously, with these positive advances, there is no reason for the young star to leave Chelsea to move to Newcastle at this time.
