With such a huge number of participants, there exist several qualifying rounds to reduce the teams taking part in the competition. 

Currently, in the 2020-2021 season of FA Trophy, there are two preliminary rounds, three qualifying rounds and five proper rounds before the quarterfinals, semifinals, and end up with the most expected final round.

The leading clubs from the higher division will have byes to skip the early rounds and are directly sent to the later qualifying or proper rounds. By attending every single game, a team can earn respective prize money. 

Is the FA Trophy canceled?

No, the league was postponed actually. The 2019-2020 season was strongly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, therefore, it was suspended from the semi-finals. With seven months pending, the semi-final matches were rescheduled and played in September 2020, but the final round steps backward until 3 May 2021, at Wembley Stadium, but inside closed doors.

Despite the postponement of the last season, the 2020-2021 FA Trophy is still going on with the last semi-finals have been played on March 27, determining two teams who gained the two tickets to the very last game.

So the FA Trophy final this year will be played on May 22 between Hereford and AFC Hornchurch, at the regular and annual venue Wembley Stadium. So this May, audiences will be satisfied with two FA Trophy finals of two continuous seasons.
