Barcelona vs Real Madrid Highlight

In the 2022–23 Supercopa de Espaa final, Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 3-0, winning their first trophy under Xavi's leadership of the team. In the opening period, neither team's striker—Karim Benzema or Robert Lewandowski—converted any of their opportunities. In the 33rd minute, Gavi scored the game's first goal by converting a beautiful pass from Lewandowski. Just before halftime, the Pole increased Barca's lead by doubling it by capitalizing on a Real mistake in midfield. In the 69th minute, Pedri scored his team's third goal, capping a deadly counterattack by converting a cross from Gavi. In the 93rd minute, Real's Benzema scored a late consolation goal, but it was far too late to prevent the defeat. Barcelona has now won the Supercopa 14 times overall, which is the most of any team in Supercopa history.

Barcelona vs Real Madrid Summary

The white shirts of Real Madrid strode onto the pitch looking to defend their title. Lucky ticket holders were hoping for another blockbuster affair after both sides provided dramatic tussles in their semi-final contests. Even though it wasn't Hollywood, Saudi Arabia's captivating capital city provided the ideal backdrop as the competition's record winners, dressed in blue and garnet, took charge of the first half and made it clear to their opponents that they would not be acting extras tonight.

Early on, Alejandro Balde mysteriously sliced Robert Lewandowski's rebound over, forcing Thibaut Courtois to demonstrate his skill by deftly tipping the shot onto the post. Barcelona then picked up the pace and took a two-goal lead into halftime, probably smelling blood. Lewandowski first noticed Gavi's run into the area shortly after the halfway point. If the calmness of that finish didn't evoke comparisons to Lionel Messi in some people, his subsequent assist just before halftime most certainly did. Youngster's deft square pass to Lewandowski allowed the striker to quickly score his 20th goal of the year without missing a beat.

Real were compelled to replace Eduardo Camavinga at halftime in a match that was arguably won in the middle of the field. Los Blancos, who were helpless to stop the ball from escaping their grasp, observed the change as having little impact. As impressive as Barcelona's attack can be, the Catalans have recently displayed a tough side to their defensive prowess. They guided Real through the second half despite only allowing six LaLiga goals this season, though Courtois would need to be on hand to prevent Lewandowski from adding to his tally as the hour mark drew near.

Karim Benzema appeared alone as Frenkie de Jong and Sergio Busquets, who were playing in their record-tying 45th El Clásico, hoarded the ball with greedy intent. The combination of their two future stars then assuredly secured the first trophy of Xavi's tenure. Gavi once more gave the killer pass, allowing Pedri to enter the scene and open fire. Barcelona's midfield played some exhibition football in the waning minutes of a win that will live long in the minds of the Blaugrana supporters. However, Benzema did at least lessen the blow of a painful loss by scoring a late consolation.
