In light of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's appalling performances, Chelsea manager Graham Potter has been informed that the team would be "better off without" the striker.

Since moving from Barcelona to the Blues in the summer transfer window for a fee of £10.3 million, Aubameyang has only scored once in the Premier League. His most recent low point was on Thursday, when Manchester City defeated Chelsea.

Five minutes into the match at Stamford Bridge, the striker was substituted in for the injured Raheem Sterling. But Potter pulled him back off the field 22 minutes before the game's end after he had only 13 touches and no shots.

Following their loss to City, Chelsea now occupy the tenth spot in the Premier League, 10 points behind Manchester United for the remaining Champions League spot. Potter stated that despite Aubaemyang's early substitution, he had no issue with the player.

"No, I’ve not got time to speak in any depth about that point. You understand that footballers want to play and help the team. It’s a decision we have to make. He hasn’t played for a while, and playing against Manchester City as a forward, sometimes you have to do a bit of work off the ball. He gave everything for the team and was fatiguing a little bit. So that was the decision," he said.

Chelsea should sell Aubameyang

Neil Warnock compared former Manchester United great Cristiano Ronaldo to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, a striker for Chelsea. According to the former manager, the Blues would be better off without Aubameyang, just as the Red Devils would be without Ronaldo.

During his time at Dortmund and Arsenal, Aubameyang was regarded as one of the best forwards in Europe in terms of talent and productivity. Warnock claims that the Gabon international is past his prime and is more concerned with "looking after himself."

The former manager used Cristiano Ronaldo, who left Manchester United during the Qatar World Cup, as an illustration to contrast Aubameyang's slide with his own.

Neil Warnock suggested that Chelsea should sell Aubameyang

Aubameyang has drawn Potter's ire in the past when at Arsenal, and Warnock has advised him to be cautious of him. Neil Warnock also said that Graham Potter will be "thrown under the bus" by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if he gets dissatisfied at Stamford Bridge. He also suggested that Chelsea should allow Aubameyang to move to other clubs.

"You get players like that, and you are better off without them. Chelsea are short of strikers, but people like Aubameyang are really after themselves; they look after themselves as players, and they’ll throw the manager under the bus rather than take any blame. So I think Graham Potter has to deal with it."

"It’s similar to what’s happened with Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United. I said United should let him go in preseason, and that was no disrespect to Ronaldo. Leopards don’t change their spots, and I don’t think Aubameyang will ever change. You know from Arsenal to Chelsea, now he looks the same type of player. On his day, he's as good as you’ll see, but his days are few and far between."

Last year, Aubameyang and Mikel Arteta had a very public falling out, with the latter not hesitant to set the record straight with his club captain and, possibly, make an example of the former Borussia Dortmund star.

Although there are rumors that the former Barcelona player is getting restless at the club, Potter stated that the Gabon international has been out with a back issue that occurred earlier this week.

The 33-year-old has only scored once in nine league outings for the Blues so far this season. He cut a disgruntled figure after being replaced in the 66th minute against City on Thursday, despite entering the game in the fifth minute.

The Blues have been working to raise their league ranking, but Aubameyang's goal drought has seriously hampered their efforts.
