Neymar has a successful surgery

After a successful surgery in Doha, Qatar to entirely repair an ankle injury, Neymar started the recuperation process.

On Friday morning, the Paris Saint-Germain player, who is 31 years old, arrived at Aspetar hospital in Doha on crutches. After undergoing surgery, which was completed within hours, the club issued a statement saying that Neymar Jr had a successful operation. The player will now have to follow a rest and treatment protocol.

"Neymar Jr underwent surgery late Friday morning at ASPETAR Hospital in Doha, by Professors Pieter D'Hooghe (ASPETAR), James Calder (Fortius Clinic London) and Rodrigo Lasmar (Brazilian National Team). The intervention went very well. The player will now follow a rest and care protocol." - PSG announced.

It was not disclosed by either the club or Aspetar if Neymar had been discharged from the hospital. The surgery was performed by British surgeon James Calder, who has provided medical care to numerous European football celebrities.

"Neymar will take 3 to 4 months to be able to return to training with the team," the Paris capital club emphasized on March 7. With this situation, Neymar's 2022/23 season officially ends.

Neymar’s injury

During the 24th round of Ligue 1 on February 19, Neymar suffered an ankle injury while playing for Paris Saint-Germain against Lille. The collision phase left him unable to walk on his own and he shed tears when he realized something was wrong. Medical reports from 2017 showed that his right foot was in poor condition, making surgery the best option. However, PSG ignored the advice of the medical team and underestimated the severity of Neymar's injury.

Neymar’s fitness problems

Ever since Paris Saint-Germain signed Neymar for a world-record fee of 222 million euros ($264m) in 2017, concerns over his fitness have been a recurring issue. Since his arrival, he has only played in 49 percent of PSG's Ligue 1 matches, which amounts to 112 out of 228 games. Neymar had suffered an injury to the same ankle in 2018 and had been treated in Qatar back then.

According to L'Equipe, several podiatrists believe that PSG's delay in deciding on surgery earlier is the reason for Neymar's frequent injuries. Since joining PSG in 2017, the Brazilian star has missed over 100 matches due to various problems, often at crucial stages of the season.

In the second leg of the Champions League round of 16, PSG suffered a 0-2 defeat to Bayern Munich on March 9, with Neymar still sidelined due to injury. It is currently unclear what the future holds for the former Barcelona player, with reports suggesting that PSG may be willing to sell him permanently in the summer of 2023. However, he has vowed to bounce back stronger from his latest setback.
