Real Madrid news: Nacho renews his contract at Real Madrid until 2023

Real Madrid have announced that Nacho Fernandez has signed an extended contract with the club until 2023 summer. This talented defender has played for Los Blancos’s classes for 20 years since 2001. His contributions in the current squad are irreplaceable. 

A one-year extension to Nacho’s previous contract

On Real Madrid’s official website, the news about Nacho’s contract renewal on July 8th is on the top page. He signed his new deal until June 20th, 2023, at Real Madrid City alongside club president Florentino Pérez. After completing the signing, he was presented with a shirt having his name and the number 2023. 

This is a one-year extension to his previous deal which lasts until 2022. Los Blancos wanted to ensure that there would be no doubts about his future in the 2021-22 season.

Nacho grew up in Real Madrid’s academy from 2001. He has debuted as a player in the first squad since 2010. During 11 years playing in the first team, he hasn’t had a stable spot in the main line-up. However, he always completed his role impressively whenever on the field. The biggest advantage of Nacho is that he could play a variety of positions. In defense, he can play in the middle and on both wings. This talented defender had a fantastic 2020-2021 season for Los Blancos, perfectly filling in for Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane when they were both injured, proving that he deserved every penny of his new contract.

Nacho’s real name is José Ignacio Fernández Iglesias. He was born in Madrid, Spain on 18 January 1990. He is a Spanish professional football player who serves as a defender for Real Madrid and the Spain national team.

Nacho has spent his whole career with Real Madrid. He came to Real Madrid’s youth academy at the age of 11 after 2 years of training in AD Complutense academy. He had his first senior match in the 2008-09 season when playing for Real Madrid B ( RM Castilla) in Segunda Division B. 

On 23 April 2011, Nacho Fernández Iglesias made his debut in the first team of Real Madrid in La Liga, starting as a left-back in a 6-3 away win against Valencia CF.
