Russia national football team was banned from Euro 2024
UEFA has just decided to ban Russian national football team from joining EURO 2024 due to their country’s attacks on Ukraine.
Russia’s war on Ukraine has badly affected Russian football. After being eliminated from the qualification process for World Cup 2022, the Sbornaya continued to face another suspension from UEFA.
UEFA has confirmed that Russia will be excluded from competing in the Euro 2024 qualifying draw because its national team is still suspended as a result of the country's invasion of Ukraine. The UEFA Executive Committee confirmed on Tuesday that: “All Russian teams are currently suspended following the decision of the UEFA Executive Committee of 28 February 2022 which has further been confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on 15 July 2022”. “Russia is therefore not included in the UEFA European Football Championship 2022-24 qualifying draw.”
Therefore, 53 qualifying teams will compete for 23 tickets to the UERO 2024 group stages with the host, Germany. All the teams will be allocated into 10 groups (7 groups of 5 teams and 3 groups of 6 teams). The top ten winners from each group and the top ten runners-up from each group advance to the final tournament. Play-offs will be held in March 2024 to determine the remaining three spots.
