Euro 2021, or actually Euro 2020 which was canceled due to the strong impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in Europe, is coming to an end within a month. The Wales national team, one of the founding members of UEFA, is placed in Group A along with Italy, Switzerland, and Turkey. The squad of 26 men is revealed in the following article.

Wales’ manager

Coach: Robert John Page

Currently, Robert John Page, or simply known as Rob Page, has been responsible for the Wales national team since 2020 as a caretaker manager. He was nominated to be the manager of the senior men’s national team to temporarily substitute for the main manager Ryan Giggs, who has been arrested. 

Page started playing football at the age of 11 and then played for several clubs in England and Wales in his senior career. He was also part of the U18, U21, and the national team of Wales from 1991 to 2005. In 2014, Page started his management career with Port Vale, then Northampton Town, Wales U21, and now the Wales national team.

1. Wayne Hennessey

He was then transferred to Liverpool for a fee of £100,000 from 2012 to 2018. However, between 2015 and 2017, he was loaned to three other clubs from the nearby countries, which were Morecambe and Huddersfield Town from England and Aberdeen from Scotland. He also played for three levels of Wales squad, U17, U19, and U21 before participating in the senior national team in 2016 with 14 international caps until now.

3. Adam Davies

Adam Davies was born in Germany but he started his football career in England and Wales. He is now the goalkeeper for the English club Stoke City and the Wales national team. He was trained in Everton for six years and moved to Sheffield Wednesday as a backup goalkeeper for the first-choice goalkeeper Chris Kirkland, but he didn’t make any appearance actually.

He joined the League One club Barnsley after that for five seasons with a total of 209 games. He and his teammates received the EFL League One Team of the Season award in the 2018-19 season. Davies started playing for the Wales national team in 2019.

His family moved to Denmark in 2001 and he played in the youth side of a Danish club Viborg FF for three years after returning to his initial club and became a professional there.

He has signed two five-year contracts with Tottenham Hotspur so far, one in 2014 and one in 2019. With seven seasons being in the squad of this Premier League club, he has scored five goals in 228 matches. He was called for the senior men’s national team in Wales for the 2014 World Cup qualification in 2012 as his first national debut.

5. Joe Rodon

Another defender from Tottenham who is also playing for the Wales national team is Joe Rodon. He was also the product of Swansea City, where Ben Davies was trained. From 2015-2020, Rodon played as a professional defender for this club, and he was the captain of Swansea’s U23 team in 2017. He was loaned to Cheltenham Town in 2018 and on 16 October 2020, he was announced to play for Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £11 million. 

Rodon also played for the U20 and U21 squads of Wales before joining the Wales national team in 2019. Unfortunately, he has never made any goal in his career so far. 

6. Chris Mepham

On 22 January 2019, this young player signed a long-term contract with the Premier League club AFC Bournemouth with his first debut as the substitute for Junior Stanislas in a match against Chelsea. 7. Chris Gunter

After that, he spent one-year training in the Bristol Rovers and became a professional player in their senior side from 2012 to 2019, where he scored seven goals in 285 matches. 13. Joe Allen

15. Ethan Ampadu

On 1 July 2017, he started playing for Chelsea and has joined 12 Premier League matches with the senior club. In the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, he was loaned to the German club RB Leipzig and Sheffield United respectively. In his time, Chelsea won the UEFA Europa League in the 2018-19 season although he didn’t make any goal for this club or other clubs in his career. In May 2017, Ampadu was selected for the Wales national team for the World Cup qualification round.

16. Matthew Smith

Matthew Robert Smith, or simply known as Matt Smith, is a professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Man City and the Wales national team. He started his youth career in West Bromwich Albion, then was trained in Man City from 2013 to 2018. Although Smith has become the professional player for The Citizens since the 2018-19 Premier League, he hasn’t appeared in any game with the club so far.

The reason was he joined other clubs during this time, mostly on a year-long loan deal. He played for FC Twente and scored two goals in the Eerste Divisie-the second-highest division in the Netherlands, Queens Park Rangers and Charlton Athletic in the EFL Championship, and Doncaster Rovers in the recent season of League One, where he netted once against AFC Wimbledon. 18. Aaron Ramsey
