Team preview for the LEC Winter Season: Fnatic

Fnatic didn't want to veer too far off course with only the bot lane changed, especially with their "new" ADC.

With the Kickoff event taking place on January 11 to kick off the new League of Legends year, the 2023 LEC Season is drawing near quickly! Wednesday will mark Martin "Rekkles" Larsson's return to the LEC after joining the LFL after leaving G2 Esports in the summer of 2021 when the storied team failed to make the World Championship that year. With his comeback, Fnatic hopes to retake the European title and at the very least go to the Worlds Playoffs.

Toplane – Martin “Wunder” Nordahl Hansen

Wunder was able to tolerate being the toplaner for Fnatic for another year in between two World of Warcraft Mythic+ Raids. The 24-year-old Dane has always been a part of the European League of Legends; before joining G2 Esports in 2017, he played for SK Gaming Prime, Team Dignitas EU, and Splyce. He shared four LEC championships with Rasmus "Caps" Borregaard Winther and the G2 squad from its heyday till its demise. Wunder was expelled from G2 after the conclusion of the 2021 Season as a result of the team's collapse after Luka "Perkz" Perkovic quit.

With Fnatic, he established a new home and improved his form. While the Aatrox, Ornn, Renekton, and Maokai meta prevailed, he remained true to his full ap Gragas and Gwen, successfully piloting both Champions. In 2023, maybe the new coaching staff will permit him to pursue his own interests as well.

Jungle – Iván “Razork” Martín Díaz

In addition, Razork will remain with Fnatic despite last year's scathing criticism. Prior to joining Misfits Gaming in 2019, the Spaniard competed in the LVP SuperLiga, however that incarnation of Misfits never had any success. But Razork did, as he took home the prize for EU Rookie of the Split during the 2020 Spring season when his play was a major component in propelling the Rabbits into the playoffs.

Razork will remain with Fnatic despite last year's scathing criticism

He joined Fnatic prior to the 2022 Spring split, and he played brilliantly throughout the first part of the previous season. However, in the summer, his performance declined as more games were decided early on as a result of Fnatic's lack of a jungle presence. As the 22-year-old stepped up and transformed into the player his team needed him to be during the Summer Playoffs, he helped Fnatic finish third.

After Xin Zhao was nerfed out of the meta, things were not as nice to Razork, but he found his new path with picks like Trundle and Poppy, even causing T1 to quake on the Yordle with a Hammer. He still has more potential, and Fnatic wants to help him reach his full potential.

Midlane – Marek “Humanoid” Brázda

Humanoids are here to stay! For the 2023 Split, the Czech, who was acclaimed as the greatest midlaner in the area last year, will remain with the black and orange team. After winning both LEC Seasons in 2021, the King of Control Mages left the MAD Lions, but they haven't been able to achieve the same level of success since. That doesn't mean that his play declined; on the contrary, he had the highest Damage% of all midlaners during the regular season of 2022 Summer and the most Damage per Minute during the playoffs. It's doubtful that he will depart the squad very soon because he participated in his fourth straight Worlds while playing for them.

Midlane – Marek “Humanoid” Brázda

It is reasonable to assume that Humanoid will play his Viktor, Twisted Fate, and Azir, but it would be negligent to overlook his LeBlanc and Sylas. Even though those two are not Control Mages, Humanoid has demonstrated amazing control over them and excelled in all areas for his squad.

Botlane – Martin “Rekkles” Larsson

Fnatic was unable to accept its own loss, much to the infamous Thanos line from Avengers: Endgame. Where did it get them, then? Returning to Rekkles, it should be noted that the same can be said of the storied Swede, who has rejoined the LEC after spending a year competing in the French LFL. Since he has been participating in the European Championship since 2012, Rekkles doesn't require an introduction.

Botlane – Martin “Rekkles” Larsson

He played with Fnatic for the majority of his career, spending brief periods of time with Alliance/Elements and G2 Esports, both of which were disappointing. G2 failed to locate a team in the LEC in 2021, which was supposed to be difficult because he missed Worlds. However, he has returned after participating in Karmine Corp and taking home the 2022 Spring EU Masters title.

As in the early days of the European League of Legends, the creator of Kennen ADC and the maestro of Garen-Yuumi botlane will be a sight to see on Sivir and Zeri. Rekkles should benefit from the meta as well because he enjoys playing weakside bot, and the matches should be more toplane-focused thanks to the new tank items.

Support – Rúben “Rhuckz” Barbossa

Fans may celebrate as Rhuckz, who was the biggest surprise of Worlds 2022, will now be a full-time member of the team. Zdravets "Hylissang" Iliev Galabov had to be replaced by the Academy support for Fnatic because the FNC support at the time had COVID in the early Worlds 2022 matches. Rhuckz did a fantastic job working with the entire squad and managed to get the top KDA of the entire competition. He went 0/0/8 on Leona and 0/0/14 on Nautilus, completely contrasting Hyli, who is infamous for frequently dying in skirmishes and when attempting to create plays.

Support – Rúben “Rhuckz” Barbossa

Rhuckz has gained the respect and confidence of the Fnatic management as a result of his success, thus he is now eligible to play in major competitions. As he can stick by Rekkles during laning and just roam when the team needs it with his trusty Rakan, he looks to be stronger support for Rekkles as well.

The new Fnatic squad seems to be much more reliable than the previous one. Rhuckz and Rekkles are fantastic team additions and may provide a safety net if Humanoid is unable to gain the upper hand during the laning phase. Fnatic is predicted to be one of the top 4 teams in the 2023 LEC year, despite Rekkles and Rhuckz having to establish themselves once more and for the first time, respectively.

Fortunately, the start of the Winter Split is on Wednesday, so we won't have to wait long to watch the Swede in action!
