Worlds 2023 will take place in Korea, and the new qualification system has been totally revealed. After months of rumors, Riot Games has now confirmed that Worlds 2023 will be held in South Korea!

Worlds 2023 will take place in Korea with updated eligibility requirements

In 2018 and 2014, South Korea last hosted the Worlds. Invictus Gaming, an LPL organization, won the title in 2018. Additionally, none of the LCK clubs finished in the top four that year. During Worlds 2014, the host area was more successful as Samsung White defeated Star Horn Royal Club 3-1 to win the championship.

The Worlds in 2023 will also have a new format. The Play-In, Swiss, and Knockout Stages each include 22 teams competing against one another. The Worlds Qualifying Series is another new method for teams to qualify for the Worlds.

Everything you need to know about the format changes for Worlds 2023

What is the Worlds Qualifying Series?

The Worlds Qualifying Series will include competition amongst the fourth seeds of the LEC and LCS. The champion will be guaranteed a spot in the Worlds in South Korea in 2023. This route to certification will initially be restricted to these two areas. In the future, Riot Games wants to add other teams and territories.

The Worlds 2023 Play-In Stage has a new double-elimination structure in place

The Play-In Stage will serve as the starting point for eight teams. The top team from LLA, CBLOL, LJL, and the WQS champion will join the top two teams from VCS and PCS. Teams will be paired in four double-elimination brackets for the Play-Ins. Each game will be a best-of-three scenario. Best-of-five brackets will be used to decide which top two teams advance to the Swiss Stage.

Swiss Stage replaces the Worlds' Group Stage

The Swiss stage will have 16 teams in total. The top four teams from the LPL and LCK, as well as the top three teams from the LEC and LCS, will begin the tournament in the Swiss stage, along with the two teams who qualified via the Play-Ins. There will be a five-round Swiss-style competition. Teams who have identical win-loss records will face off against one another until one of them has three victories or three defeats. Teams will be matched up at random in the first round to play a best-of-one game against another team from a different area.

Teams that have the same record as them will be rematched in the second round. There will be five more rounds of this. The qualifying and elimination rounds will be played in a best-of-three format. Teams who finish with three victories proceed to the Knockout Stage, while those that finish with three defeats are eliminated from the competition. Eight teams in total advance to the playoffs.

Knockout Stage remains the same

The quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals that make up the Knockout Stage are the same as in prior seasons. Single-elimination King of the Hill tournaments has eight teams. Every match will be a best-of-five affair. The winner of the 2023 Worlds is decided in the final.

The League Mid-Season Invitational will undergo the following format modifications in 2023

The Mid-Season Invitational, the second-most significant competition on the League of Legends circuit, will change in 2023. This year, a number of adjustments will be made to the event as well as its first visit to London, England. The play-in stage and bracket stage will be the only ones left once all of the event's stages have been redesigned. When it comes to the worldwide League competition, they will also include completely new forms.

More teams from the four major areas will also be invited to the competition at the same time. According to Riot Games, the major objective of all these modifications is to establish a venue for "more cross-regional competition." It's simple to become lost because of the tournament's completely revised framework. But don't worry, you're insured by us. The Mid-Season Invitational will undergo the following format modifications in 2023.

In 2023, how many teams will receive invitations to the Mid-Season Invitational?

13 teams will now compete in the event, with two teams from each of the four main leagues (LCS, LEC, LPL, and LCK) represented. The top seeds from these areas will go straight to the bracket stage, while the second seed from the LCK (because they are the defending Worlds champions) will take a similar route. For three spots in the bracket stage of the play-in stage, the remaining eight teams will compete.

The new play-in stage for the Mid-Season Invitational is detailed

Eight teams will compete in the play-in stage, divided into two equal groups. The teams will compete in a double-elimination tournament there, with the 2-0 teams moving on to the bracket stage right away. The third and final team to qualify for the bracket stage will be decided by a best-of-five series between the losers' bracket winners.

Explaining the new bracket stage for the Mid-Season Invitational

There will be 14 double-elimination best-of-five matches in the bracket stage. This will result in more regional cross-play and thrilling best-of-five action for the audience. Each side will have an additional chance to win during the bracket stage thanks to the adoption of this adjustment. There is currently no precise information available on the seeding of the teams for the play-in and bracket stages, but more information should become available closer to the tournament.
