The club’s history
Burnley Football Club is one of the first professional football clubs in England. They were founded 139 years ago, on 18 May 1882, and became professional one year after that. Burnley was also one of the founding members of the Football Association, which was established in 1888.
They have been playing in the claret and blue home color since the 1910-11 season, thus their nickname “The Clarets”. Burnley have also played at Turf Moor since 1883. This 21,944-capacity stadium is the second-longest continuously used ground in the history of professional English football. Despite not being considered a strong club, Burnley have a stable competitive manner and are one of only five teams who have won all four professional divisions of English football, along with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Preston North End, Sheffield United, and Portsmouth.
The club also won the FA Cup once, two titles of FA Charity Shield, and also reached the quarter-finals of the 1960-61 European Cup, which is now known as the UEFA Champions League.
