1. Premier League

The 2020-21 Premier League finished last May and Burnley Football Club ended up with 17th place. With 11 points difference, Burnley saved themselves from being relegated to the EFL Championship next year. Within 38 Premier League games, The Clarets won a total of 10 matches, including four at home and six away. They were the losing teams of 19 matches and drew nine games. Eventually, Burnley F.C. accumulated 39 points, ranking 17th, after Brighton & Hove Albion in 16th position with 41 points, and above Fulham with 28 aggregated points.

Besides their losses, Burnley did amazingly win in several matches that they had to face the top teams or even some giants in English football. For example, Burnley surpassed Arsenal on matchday 11 on 13 December 2020 by a 1-0 win, another 1-0 win over Liverpool in early 2021, and an honorable triumph against Wolverhampton Wanderers by 4-0.

2. FA Cup

In the cup arena, Burnley was eliminated at the fifth round of the 2020-21 FA Cup due to the 0-2 loss to Bournemouth. They entered the competition in the third round thanks to the qualification as a Premier League club. Their first FA Cup match was held on 9 January 2021 against League One club Milton Keynes Dons.

It was not an easy win as two clubs ended up with a 1-1 tie during the official competing minutes. However, Milton Keynes Dons were defeated in the penalty shoot-out with a 3-4 final result. In the next round, Burnley once again successfully got the ticket to the fifth round by a 3-0 win over Fulham. However, unfortunately, the fifth round was also the last appearance of this club in the FA Cup this season.

3. EFL Cup

In the 2020-21 EFL Cup, Burnley also participated in three rounds, from the second to the fourth round. They won the second round by a 5-4 penalty win over Sheffield United. One week later, Burnley kicked Millwall out of the competition in the third round by a 2-0 win. Their slot in the EFL Cup was threatened by being paired with Man City in the fourth round. And what happened would happen, The Sky Blue easily defeated Burnley F.C. by scoring three goals while Burnley didn’t net any goals.

The club’s history

Burnley Football Club is one of the first professional football clubs in England. They were founded 139 years ago, on 18 May 1882, and became professional one year after that. Burnley was also one of the founding members of the Football Association, which was established in 1888.

They have been playing in the claret and blue home color since the 1910-11 season, thus their nickname “The Clarets”. Burnley have also played at Turf Moor since 1883. This 21,944-capacity stadium is the second-longest continuously used ground in the history of professional English football. Despite not being considered a strong club, Burnley have a stable competitive manner and are one of only five teams who have won all four professional divisions of English football, along with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Preston North End, Sheffield United, and Portsmouth.

The club also won the FA Cup once, two titles of FA Charity Shield, and also reached the quarter-finals of the 1960-61 European Cup, which is now known as the UEFA Champions League.
