Match preview

Putting Levante and Valencia on the scale seems to be an unnecessary thing to do. Levante are sitting at the bottom of the table and have never won any La Liga match since the beginning of this season.

They have had eight draws and 10 losses within their 18 first games, gaining only eight points. Levante are also one of the unpleasant clubs in the highest division of Spanish football. They have been in the bottom five places for many seasons recently, but only being relegated once in the 2007-08 season. However, this season has clearly shown their weakness and high chances are they will be sent to the lower division.

On the other hand, recent performances of The Bats have been really good. They were unbeaten in the six consecutive games in the 2021-22 La Liga, with three wins and three draws, even over some giants like Atletico Madrid or Real Sociedad.

In general, at the moment, Levante can be considered an underdog in this game. However, in fact, they used to surpass Valencia once last season on their home ground. So we couldn’t say for sure if Valencia could win this match for 100% at an away venue and Levante could end their thirst for victory this morning.

The home team took the lead in the first half

The game showed that Levante were actually the team that played better and had more shots on target. In the 18th minute, Duarte had a chance to score the opening goal for the home club with a headshot from a corner kick, but the ball, unfortunately, touched the cross-bar.

However, in this shot, the ball also touched Diakhaby’s right hand in the penalty area after a VAR review from the main official, and fortunately, Levante were awarded a penalty shot. Although the No.24 player from the home club failed in the first shot of this, the goal still came to Levante’s players after it was bounced back from Valencia goalkeeper and kicked by Campana again.

Jose Campana who scored the opening goal for the home team

Just three minutes after, the home club had a quick counter-attack, and Morales had a big contribution to the second goal. He had a nice pass for Roger Marti to score a simple goal for Levante when there was so much space on Valencia’s net.

Captain Morales almost scored the third goal to triple the difference, but it was a save from Diakhaby. Before the first half ended, Goncalo Guedes shortened the distance with an eye-catching left-foot shot in the 44th minute that Cardenas couldn’t handle. This was the fifth goal of this Portuguese forward for Valencia in this season of La Liga.

A chase of score between the two clubs in the second half

The second half started with a penalty shot for the visitors because of a collision between No.19 and No.14 players from two teams. Carlos Soler easily and confidently scored the equalizing goal for Valencia in this penalty shot

In the 72nd minute, Valencia turned the table with the second goal from Carlos and the third goal for the club. Guedes also completed his brace in this game with his second goal in the 85th minute when the goalkeeper raised a bit high and he easily brought the fourth goal for Valencia. He was successful in tricking both Levante’s midfielder and goalkeeper in this shot.

Carlos Soler- who scored two goals for Valencia

With all effort in the last minute of the game, Enis Bardhi scored the third goal for Levante in the first extra time. The final score was 3-4 and the home team still couldn’t have their first win in this season of La Liga.

In the last minute of the match, two clubs lost two players with two red cards. But at this moment, it didn’t matter at all to have only ten men each on the pitch.

2021-22 La Liga table updated

Valencia, with this result, climbed to the seventh position with 28 points, only one point fewer than the two above clubs Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad, and one point greater than Barcelona- the eighth-ranked club.

Levante, besides gaining three more goals in their goals for as well as four goals in the goals against, have nothing changed in their standing. However, we cannot deny the attempt of Levante players when facing a much higher-position club by making them concede three goals and only had one goal fewer than their derby rival.
