Event at Australian Open could have to be moved to Sydney or China
The Australian Open is seriously in danger of being shifted from Melbourne to Sydney or maybe China because of Covid crowd limitations, which have rendered Tennis Australia bankrupt and unable to afford urgent expansion.
An Australian Open event could need to be transferred to Sydney or China
That is the caution issued by TA President Craig Tiley, who claimed that even the $1 billion in government funds given to the organization over the previous ten years to improve the Melbourne Park area was insufficient to bring it up to the caliber of other Grand Slam competitions.
Because of crowd control measures from the last two Australian Opens, according to Tiley, TA is in no position to pay for changes on its own. He claimed to the Herald Sun that because of the Covid crowd limitations over the previous two years, TA's cash reserves had "gone from $80 million to nil, very much."

With Tiley revealing there have been recent discussions about shifting the event away from Melbourne owing to the financial crisis, TA was budgeting for a record 900,000 ticket sales for the event next month to provide much-needed money.
He said to the Herald-Sun, "I know it was discussed and it was contested, without a doubt." From a personal standpoint, I've always argued that the Australian Open should always be held in Melbourne. However, I'm only one person. There is an organization, a board, stakeholders, and a firm for the future, among other things.”
Private investment groups in Sydney and Shanghai made a concerted effort to snare the event in 2010, which led the Victorian government to invest $1 billion in enhancing Melbourne Park and keeping the event. Even though that money was spent, Tiley claimed that recent large investments made by the other Grand Slam venues, Wimbledon, Roland Garros, and Flushing Meadow, left Melbourne Park once more looking like the underdog. Melbourne Park, in contrast to the other three, is a government-run asset that TA only leases not owns.
Ash Barty enjoys her victory in the women's singles competition at the 2022 Australian Open
When we caught up, everyone was together after a period of being far behind, Tiley said. Now that they have space, the other three are jumping enormous distances. What will be our significant leap to prevent falling behind, then?
The two primary courts for the Australian Open, Rod Laver Arena and John Cain Arena, as well as other outside courts, according to Tiley, are not enough for Melbourne Park. He argued that in order to do that, Melbourne Park will need to enlarge over the train lines into what little green space there was in the city's densely populated sporting district, right next to the rectangular AAMI Park stadium.
Iga Swiatek claims that Ash Barty, an Australian golden girl, "inspired" her
Iga Swiatek, the current world number one, acknowledged having mixed emotions when Ashleigh Barty announced her retirement in March and praised the Australian as the motivation for her impressive run of play. When the Australian star retired from the sport, the Polish player essentially took Barty's spot atop the WTA rankings. She has since earned that position by winning the US Open and French Open. Between February and July, Swiatek won 37 straight games, advanced to nine finals, and won eight championships.
Nine months ago, Barty startled the tennis community when she announced her retirement from the game just two months after winning the Australian Open to follow up her Wimbledon victory in the summer of 2021. Swiatek said in April that she sobbed for more than 40 minutes when Barty announced her retirement, but she has since explained how the Australian's choice to leave tennis inspired her to succeed.
On Saturday, Iga Swiatek will represent Poland in the first United Cup in Brisbane
Next month, Swiatek will enter the Australian Open as the overwhelming favorite, but she felt that there were still some aspects of her game that she wanted to improve. She also said she hoped to see Barty when she was visiting Australia in order to express her gratitude to her old foe for being the driving force behind her current success.
She said, "Maybe this week we will be able to meet, and I'm going to tell her [Barty] straight away because she really encouraged me to work harder. Her unique approach to gaming helped me realize there is always an opportunity for development. Even today, I believe there is more I can do to change and get better, and I'm happy that I can try new things even after having such a good season this year.”
