The Olympics, carnival, Tour de France: All upcoming cultural events in France.

The 2024 Olympics

The summer Olympics, the largest multi-sport event in history, are slated to take place in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024, with 16 other towns in metropolitan France and one in the French overseas territory of Tahiti serving as a subsite.

The programme for the Summer Olympics in 2024 calls for 32 sports and 329 events, making it the first Summer Olympics since 1960 to have less events than the previous edition. Each discipline's total number of events is listed in parenthesis.

The final Olympic Games to be held under IOC President Thomas Bach's leadership, the Games will mark the introduction of breaking (breakdancing) as an Olympic sport.

The 2024 Paralympics

The largest multi-sport parasports competition overseen by the International Paralympic Committee, the summer Paralympics, is scheduled to take place from August 28 to September 8, 2024.

These games mark the first time Paris will host the Paralympics in its history and the second time that France will host the Paralympic Games, as Tignes and Albertville jointly hosted the 1992 Winter Paralympics.

On July 8, 2022, after many rounds of discussion, the final version of the schedule was revealed: It was decided that the 2024 edition will be one day shorter than the 2020 event due to logistical considerations. There will be a total of 271 events for men, 235 events for women, and 43 mixed events, with at least 1,859 athletes competing in women's events. This is nearly twice as many events as there were in Sydney 2000 (when 990 women competed in the Games), though it was also noted that there are still 359 spots available for mixed events, so the number of athletes may still rise.

Celtic festival

The Festival interceltique de Lorient is an annual Celtic festival, located in the city of Lorient, Brittany, France. It was founded in 1971 by Polig.

This festival, which celebrates the cultural traditions of the Celtic peoples (pays celtes in French), is held every August in the center of the city. It features Celtic music and dance in addition to other arts like painting, photography, theater, sculpture, traditional artisanship, sport, and gastronomy.

Participants come from the Celtic diaspora as a whole as well as from Brittany, Ireland, Scotland, Cornwall, Wales, Cumbria, the Isle of Man, Cape Breton Island, Galicia, Asturias, and Acadia.

Ireland will be the festival's guest of honor this year from August 4 to August 13.

Rugby World Cup

The tenth edition of the men's Rugby World Cup, the four-year global championship for men's rugby union teams, is set for 2023. It is slated to take place in France at nine different locations from September 8 to October 28, 2023. The Stade de France, located in the commune of Saint-Denis, north of Paris, will host both the opening game and the championship.

South Africa is the reigning champion after defeating England 32–12 in the 2019 final.

World Ski Championships

The 47th FIS Alpine World Ski Championships will take place from February 6 to February 19, 2023, in two neighboring locations in the French Alps, Courchevel and Méribel.

The 1992 Winter Olympics were partially held in the same two locales. Ski jumping and the Nordic combination were performed at Courchevel, while the women's alpine skiing competition was held in Méribel.

Nice carnival

One of the biggest, greatest, and oldest carnivals in the world is the Nice Carnival. It is a 15-day pre-Lenten carnival that occurs in the days preceding Mardi Gras, the day before Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent.

From Friday, February 10, until Sunday, February 26, 2023, Nice Carnival will be held.

The "King of the World's Treasures" theme will be used for the 2023 Nice Carnival. Additionally, the city will commemorate both the event's 150th anniversary and the city's designation as a World Heritage Site by Unesco.

Tour de France

On July 1, the Basque Country of Spain's Bilbao will host the start of the 110th Tour de France.

Before arriving at the customary Paris finish, riders will travel via the Dordogne in the south-west (returning to the region for the first time since 2017).

The tour has just 22 kilometers (14 miles) of time trials, the fewest since the 2015 edition, and the tour will visit the Puy de Dôme for the first time since 1988.
