The contract between Jorginho and Arsenal

Jorginho has agreed to a deal for 18 months with a one-year extension option. He left Stamford Bridge six months before his contract expired. The Italian midfielder will sign a contract that lasts until June 2024, with an option to extend for another year. Jorginho was Mikel Arteta's third acquisition during the January transfer window.

Arsenal say about Jorginho’s transfer

Arsenal showed its happiness at owning Jorginho. Sporting Director Edu said: "Jorginho is an established professional with a strong mentality who brings quality and experience into our squad. He is a player who fits our style of play, and he joins us at a very good moment where he can contribute in a key position to help maintain our momentum. We welcome Jorginho to Arsenal."

Coach  Mikel Arteta also had the complimention for Jorginho and stated that Jorginho will be a nessscesary deal for Arsenal in the remaining of the season.

"Jorginho is a midfield player with intelligence, deep leadership skills and a huge amount of Premier League and international experience. Jorginho has won in his career, but he still has the hunger and huge willingness to contribute here. We are so pleased to sign Jorginho and welcome him and his family to the club."

In the summer of 2020, immediately after he had won the Champions League with the Blues and the year before he had won the European Championships with Italy, Jorginho was being pursued by Arsenal.

Jorginho's statement

Jorginho expresses his admiration for Arteta as well as his emotions when moving Arsenal:

"He was a big influence because I know that he tried a few times to get me before and it didn't happen due to other reasons, not because of my wishes. I'm very excited for this new challenge, and I just can't wait to be on the pitch to be honest! Everything has happened so fast. I was a bit surprised, but I took the opportunity of this amazing challenge."

Before Saturday's game at Everton, Jorginho will link up with his new teammates and put on the number 20 jersey.

Who is Jorginho?

Jorginho is a player with a vast amount of experience in both club and international football. In his career, he made more than 500 appearances at the club level and 46 times for the Italian national football team.

Before joining Serie A team Napoli, he began his career in the youth academy at Italian club Verona, where he played four seasons in the first squad and made 96 appearances. Over the course of his four seasons with the club, he made 160 appearances and helped the team win the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana in 2014.

Jorginho had important role in the squad of Chelsea and Italian national football team

After joining Chelsea in July 2018, he has been a mainstay in their Premier League team and has won the FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Super Cup. Jorginho made 213 appearances and was a key contributor to the team's Europa League and Champions League victories in 2019 and 2021.

He also assisted Italy in winning the Euro 2020 championship, received the UEFA Men's Player of the Year award later that summer, and came in third place in the 2021 Ballon d'Or voting.

Evaluation of Jorginho’s deal

Jorginho's move to Arsenal is seen as beneficial to all parties involved, including Jorginho, Arsenal, and Chelsea.

Chelsea accepted the sale of Jorginho and made every effort to sign Benfica central midfielder Enzo Fernandez. Meawhile, the "Gunners" switched to pursuing Jorginho after failing to convince Brighton to sell Moises Caicedo. The Emirates Stadium club made two offers worth £60 million and £70 million, respectively, but both were unsuccessful.

However, coach Mikel Arteta is also very fond of Jorginho's playing style. The experience and ability to pass the ball and regulate the play of the Euro 2020 champion promise to be of great help to Arsenal in the Premier League battle this season.

Personally, Jorginho also plans to leave Chelsea soon. The former Napoli midfielder was not able to meet the expected salary, so he refused to extend his contract. Landing at Emirates, Jorginho can achieve the expected income.

Currently, Arsenal is "makeovering" strongly and challenging the permanent champion, Manchester City. The owner club of Emirates Stadium has a young and uniformed team of players. Coach Mikel Arteta's football philosophy is clearly shaped after a few years of application, and he has reaped the rewards of helping the team lead the Premier League to this point.
