Man United transfer news: Sabitzer to replace Eriksen

The deal between Man United and Sabitzer

After Marcel Sabitzer leaves Bayern Munich, Manchester United won't make any other acquisitions on the final day of the transfer window. There have been many rumors this evening about the possibility of a second arrival before the deadline of 11 p.m., but United's plans have finally been made public. Sabitzer will be signed by the Red Devils on a straight loan through the rest of the season with no option to extend. Erik ten Hag recognized the 28-year-old midfielder as the perfect response to a problem brought on by the injury diagnosis for Christian Eriksen. The Danish midfielder, who joined Scott McTominay on the medical list after sustaining an ankle injury in Saturday's 3-1 FA Cup victory over Reading, is anticipated to be out until at least April.

Sabitzer will be the Eriksen's replacement

Ten Hag was left with just two healthy central midfielders when Donny van de Beek was also declared out for the rest of the season: Casemiro and Fred. It spurred rumors that United would be looking to add a second midfielder before the winter transfer season closes after Sabitzer, but that isn't the case.

Sabitzer medical at Man United

Prior to tonight's deadline, Sabitzer flew into the UK on Tuesday to finalise his loan transfer to United. Samuel Luckhurst, a United correspondent for The MEN, claimed that United already had trucks at Manchester Airport to transport Sabitzer to their Carrington training facility. Shortly after 8.30 p.m., our main reporter confirmed that Sabitzer had really arrived. The Austrian star will review his medical records and other papers there. Before the window closed at 11 p.m., United was supposed to have a few hours to complete the purchase.

What Ten Hag stated about this deal

During his news conference prior to United's match against Nottingham Forest earlier today, manager Erik ten Hag was questioned about the likelihood of the team closing a deal on deadline day. "As you stated, it's difficult on deadline day; you can't make policy on such terrible injuries," Ten Hag added. However, we have midfielders on our team. We have players who can fill the gap; good players.

Why do Man United want to sign Sabitzer

Sabitzer established himself as one of the top midfielders in the Bundesliga after joining RB Leipzig in 2014. He finished the 2019–2020 season with 16 goals and 11 assists in all competitions. In 2021, he transferred to the Bavarian powerhouses for a rumored transfer fee of €16 million (£14 million). In Eriksen's absence, the Austrian international appears to be a perfect short-term solution for United.

Who is Macel Sabitzer

Sabitzer, who was fathered by former Austria international Herfried and was born in the Upper Austrian city of Wels, spent his early years playing for four different Austrian clubs before rising through the ranks at Admira Wacker Modling. He made his club debut in 2010 at the age of 16, and in the eight games that followed, he scored twice to help the team gain promotion to the Austrian Bundesliga. Sabitzer easily earned an international debut at the age of 18 after registering five goals and three assists in his first season in the top division. His talent became evident to all. Because of his efforts, Admira Wacker came in third and was promoted to the Europa League.

In January 2013, Rapid Vienna promptly snatched him up, and he went on to dominate the domestic scene there before being offered a move to Germany. Sabitzer immediately returned to his own country while on loan with Red Bull Salzburg despite signing a four-year contract at the Red Bull Arena. He would, however, end up being simply too talented for the division, scoring 19 goals and dishing out 16 assists for the eventual champions.

Ralf Rangnick, a former temporary manager for United, helped Leipzig gain promotion by just two points after Sabitzer made his second division debut for them. Sabizter scored eight goals as Leipzig finished second and qualified for the UEFA Champions League in 2017, thus the transition proved to be no issue for him or them. Throughout the 2019–2020 season, he showed himself to be one of Germany's most powerful forces, finishing the year with 16 goals and 11 assists across all competitions, including a significant contribution during the club's historic run to the Champions League quarterfinals. He kept up admirable levels of attacking efficiency.

Following yet another strong campaign as Leipzig's captain, Bayern and Julian Nagelsmann decided to spend out a reputed €16 million (£14 million) transfer price in 2021 to recruit him. Sabizter, who has spent one and a half seasons with the team, has only started 15 Bundesliga games, so life at the Allianz Arena has not been simple for him. Bayern will probably approve of his leaving. Sabitzer presently holds 68 caps on the international stage and has since gone on to represent Austria at both Euro 2016 and Euro 2020. The 2017 Austrian Footballer of the Year award went to him.
