Moisés Caicedo of Brighton is attracting interest from Chelsea.

Chelsea are planning to sign Moisés Caicedo from Brighton after failing in their quest to add Enzo Fernández from Benfica to their midfield.

Graham Potter is placing a midfielder as a priority because N'Golo Kanté is out with a long-term hamstring injury and there is question around Jorginho's future. Chelsea and Benfica have been in negotiations over Fernández, but they are considering other options after failing to reach an agreement on a transfer fee for the Argentina international.

Chelsea, which last week added depth to their attack by adding Joo Felix from Atlético Madrid on a loan, is now looking at two Brighton players as a result of the hunt. Alexis MacAllister is on their radar, but a deal for Caicedo might be more attainable. Potter was Caicedo's coach at Brighton, and Chelsea is considering making a bid for the Ecuadorian. There is an understanding that it could be challenging to sign Mac Allister given that Brighton recently gave the Argentina World Cup champion a new contract.

Brighton will probably make an effort to keep Caicedo, who Liverpool is also interested in. The team of Roberto De Zerbi will be concerned to avoid losing any key players as they strive to qualify for Europe. In the transfer market, Brighton also proved they are no pushovers when they forced Chelsea to pay £62 million for Marc Cucurella last summer. Since Chelsea already stole Kyle Macaulay and Paul Winstanley from Brighton's recruitment department in addition to signing Potter as head coach, the left-struggles back's might be used as evidence against them seeking to grab another player from Brighton.

Caicedo is interested by his former coach Graham Potter

Caicedo, who transferred from Independiente to Brighton two years ago, has also adjusted nicely. The 21-year-vitality old's and technical skill appeal to Chelsea, who is close to hiring new agents. Since losing Kanté in August of last year, Chelsea has had a weak center. They hope to keep Kanté on after the current campaign, but the 31-year-physical old's issues have made midfield upgrades even more necessary. It has not been ruled out that Fernández will make another move, either now or this summer. Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund and Declan Rice of West Ham are both summer transfer targets, although Chelsea is not the front-runner for either England midfielder.

Jorginho is increasingly set to go on his own this summer, which puts pressure on Chelsea to take action. Mateo Kovacic, Denis Zakaria, Conor Gallagher, Mason Mount, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are some of Potter's additional midfield possibilities. Since being on loan from Juventus, Zakaria has excelled, but Kovacic and Loftus-Cheek have struggled with injuries this year.

Chelsea has been very active this month, adding the signings of David Datro Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, and Andrey Santos. They are still considering another attacking player despite the injuries to Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic. Mykhailo Mudryk, a winger for Shakhtar Donetsk who is desired by Arsenal, is still a target for Chelsea, and they are also keeping an eye on Marcus Thuram of Borussia Mönchengladbach. For Mudryk, Shakhtar is asking for £85 million. Chelsea is also seeking for a right-back replacement for the injured Reece James, but it would be premature to say that they are planning to sabotage Tottenham's pursuit of Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon.
