Toronto FC nearing a signing Sigurd Rosted of Norway

One of the positions that TFC coach Bob Bradley says needs improvement and depth is center back. The Reds signed former FC Dallas center defender and former MLS Defender of the Year Matt Hedges earlier in the off-season. With a -17 goal difference and 66 goals allowed last season, Toronto had the third-worst goal differential in the league and missed the MLS Cup playoffs for the second consecutive season.

The Reds are also interested in 2022 MLS All-Star and American international NYCFC goalkeeper Sean Johnson. Johnson spent the weekend in Toronto and was there at the Raptors game on Sunday. Rosted is reportedly going to Toronto this week, but TFC representatives have not yet responded to the Rosted report. The center back, who stands 6-foot-2, is reportedly a terrific leader and defender, although he could not be ready until about halfway through the 2023 MLS season.

As the preseason in California gets underway, the Reds are seeking for additions.

Priorities for TFC throughout the offseason included keeping Osorio and bringing in a top center-back. Mark-Anthony Kaye grinned, "I have a little fanboy crush on Oso. We actually arrived at TFC at the same time; he joined the first team when I joined the academy, but I was always fascinated by what he was capable of. And the fact that he has committed to staying here for the foreseeable future demonstrates his real concern for the team, the city, and the development of soccer in Toronto and across Canada.

And returning Vázquez, who joined TFC prior to the 2017 season and was a part of the most prosperous stretch in club history, will add another one of those types of players. According to Bob Bradley, "Guys that are smart, guys that come on the field and just improve training because when the ball comes to them, they make good decisions; their sense of when to play forward, when to play sideways, when to play on the first touch, when to play on the second touch, they're good." "When you manage to bring in a few more men of that caliber after you have a few clever, talented players," He continued, "Victor was yearning for a change again; he loved his time here. He feels terrific. "He's played a lot the last two years." We'll see once we get going, but having a smart man whose behavior on the field sets a great example is definitely helpful."
