With a 5-1 thrashing of Brighton & Hove Albion, Sean Dyche's team stopped a record of 13 away Premier League games without a victory. Abdoulaye Doucouré and Dwight McNeil each scored an unusually high number of goals for the struggling Everton team.

Brighton vs Everton Highlights

In what had been labelled a "must-win" for the Merseyside team, Doucouré scored the opening goal in just 34 seconds, ghosting in at the back-post to convert Dominic Calvert-Lewin's precise cross. When Doucouré increased his and Everton's total for the afternoon at the half-hour mark, the visitors' successful start would get much better for the filled South Stand behind the goal. The former Watford player, who had previously scored just twice all season, did it this time through a lovely first-time right-footed volley inside the penalty area, posing a threat to the shaky Brighton defenders.

Brighton vs Everton Highlights

The Toffees were already in a dream state when, shortly before halftime, a commanding lead—albeit thanks to a stroke of luck—became an apparently insurmountable lead. Using his outstretched leg, Brighton custodian Jason Steele was able to deflect McNeil's cutback into the goal as he dashed down the right side of the pitch for the Seagulls. A remarkable first half, with the home team performing and looking more like relegation contenders than European competitors.

Brighton vs Everton Summary

Despite Brighton's three-goal advantage, Dyche had never before lost a Premier League game there, and early in the second half, it appeared as if his record would be in jeopardy. Evan Ferguson was twice denied by custodian and acting captain Jordan Pickford. The first time came with a close-range header that was deflected into the post. The second time was with a finger-tip save that stopped the Irishman's speculative shot from beyond the area. Their defense's fortitude would pay off, as McNeil added a fourth goal for the visitors late in the game after being under pressure for practically the entire second half. The former Burnley player was slipped in behind by Alex Iwobi during a quick counterattack in order to round the keeper and put Everton out of reach.

Brighton vs Everton Summary

But Brighton's comeback effort began in earnest as the supporters started to trickle out of the Amex Stadium. Alexis Mac Allister added to his season's goal total in the most peculiar of ways when the Argentine midfielder was struck by the ball while lying on the ground in front of an empty net. Too late and not enough? It turned out to be true, as McNeil's thundering left-footed goal into the top corner in the final seconds of regulation time completed a memorable away day for the Toffees.
