Match summary

The African squad took the field with confidence and performed effectively in the opening 30 minutes. They were the team that created the first turbulent situation. Ismaila Sarr cushioned the ball over the bar at close range after Harry Maguire's bad clearance. Not long after, taking advantage of Saka's inaccurate back-pass, Boulaye Dia had a chance to face Jordan Pickford, but his powerful diagonal shot was blocked by the brilliant reflex of the England goalkeeper. It was at the moment that Senegal thought they were close to the opening goal that the subjectivity made Aliou Cisse's squad have to pay the price.

In the 38th minute, England first found Senegal’s net thanks to Jordan Henderson. From their half-field, the ball was passed from Maguire to Shaw and then Kane. The England team captain then quickly delivered the ball to Bellingham as the 19-year-old talent approached the opponent’s penalty box. The ball then found Henderson, who was in a favorable position, after a brilliant cross from Bellingham. Mendy was unable to save the Liverpool midfielder's one-touch shot.

After being led, Senegal played with a high formation in the hope of looking for the equalizer. But they not only didn’t find what they needed but also conceded another goal in the last minutes of the first half. Bellingham led the ball to the middle of the field, over the block of a Senegal player. He passed to Foden on the left flank. In a two-on-one position, Foden easily crossed, putting Kane in front of Mendy, and the England striker did not miss his first opportunity to score for the first time at the 2022 World Cup.

Entering the second half with a 2-goal advantage, the England team easily maintained their dominance over the representative from Africa. Meanwhile, Senegal still showed their determination to score by replacing three players at the beginning of the second half. But when the effect was not seen, they had to receive one more goal.

In the 57th minute, Harry Kane failed to hit the ball but accidentally sent the ball to Foden's position. The Manchester City player deftly passed Sabalky's tackle and sent the ball straight in between Koulibaly's legs. Saka then received the ball in an unmarked position. He chopped the ball past Mendy, making it 3-0. This is Saka's third goal at the 2022 World Cup.

From that moment, although the match had more than 30 minutes left, the victory was firmly in England's hands. This allowed Southgate to make some adjustments. One of the most successful things about the "Three Lions" in this match was that no key player was injured, and they will have the strongest force in the confrontation with defending champion France in the quarterfinals.
