Oklahoma City's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Named 2024-25 Kia NBA MVP

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been awarded the Michael Jordan Trophy as the 2024-25 Kia NBA Most Valuable Player.
This marks Gilgeous-Alexander’s first MVP win, following a second-place finish last season and a fifth-place finish in 2022-23. He becomes just the second Canadian to claim the award, joining two-time MVP Steve Nash (2004-05, 2005-06), and the third player in Thunder history to earn the honor, following Kevin Durant (2013-14) and Russell Westbrook (2016-17).
During the 2024-25 regular season, Gilgeous-Alexander posted career-best averages of 32.7 points, 6.4 assists, and 1.01 blocks per game, while also recording 5.0 rebounds and 1.72 steals across 76 appearances.

In his seventh NBA season, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander claimed his first scoring title and delivered one of the most dominant campaigns in recent memory. The Oklahoma City Thunder star became the first player since James Harden in 2018-19 to lead the league in 20-point (75), 30-point (49), 40-point (13), and 50-point (four) games in a single season.
The only time he scored fewer than 20 points was on October 30, 2024, when he tallied 18 against the San Antonio Spurs. From that point forward, Gilgeous-Alexander scored 20 or more in 72 straight games—the longest single-season streak since 1963-64, when Wilt Chamberlain (80 games) and Oscar Robertson (76 games) achieved similar feats.
Standing at 6-foot-6, Gilgeous-Alexander shot an efficient 51.9% from the field, a career-best 37.5% from beyond the arc, and 89.8% from the free throw line—ranking sixth in the league. He also made an NBA-high 601 free throws and knocked down a personal-best 163 three-pointers, shattering his previous high of 95.
He joined Michael Jordan as the only players in NBA history to average at least 32.0 points and 6.0 assists per game while shooting 50% or better from the field in a season. Jordan accomplished the feat twice, in 1988-89 and 1989-90.
On the defensive end, Gilgeous-Alexander was the only qualified player to average at least 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per game. He finished fifth in the league in steals per game while anchoring a Thunder defense that led the NBA in defensive rating (106.6).
His outstanding season earned him a third consecutive NBA All-Star selection, three Kia NBA Western Conference Player of the Month honors (October/November, December, and March), and two Western Conference Player of the Week awards (Weeks 10 and 20). He also secured a spot on the All-Tournament Team of the Emirates NBA Cup, helping Oklahoma City to a second-place finish.
Led by Gilgeous-Alexander, the Thunder posted a league-best 68-14 record—tied for the sixth-best mark in NBA history—and outscored opponents by a record 12.9 points per game.
