Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving led the charge for the Dallas Mavericks, each contributing 36 points in a commanding 124-103 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves in game five. Doncic, the Slovenian standout, set the pace with an impressive 20-point performance in the first quarter, setting the tone for Dallas' dominant 69-40 halftime lead.

This victory marks the Mavericks' first appearance in the NBA Finals since their championship win in 2011, and only the third time in franchise history. Their journey to the Finals included triumphs over the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round and the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder in the conference finals.

The NBA Finals, a best-of-seven series, are set to commence in Boston on Thursday, with the Celtics vying for their record 18th NBA title in their 23rd Finals appearance.

Despite a strong showing from Timberwolves' players Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns, who each scored 28 points, Minnesota's defense struggled to contain the brilliance of Doncic throughout the series.

Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd lauded Doncic's performance, describing it as "Luka magic mode," attributing it to setting the stage and easing the gameplay for the rest of the team. Irving, seizing control of scoring in the second quarter, expressed admiration for Doncic's performance, acknowledging the challenge of facing a team led by the Slovenian star.
