LeBron James recently made history as the first men’s basketball player to lead the U.S. Olympic team into the Opening Ceremonies. However, he will not be the only NBA star taking on a leading role in Paris.

Giannis Antetokounmpo and Dennis Schröder have also been chosen as flag bearers for their respective countries, Greece and Germany. Both will make history as the first Black athletes to carry the flag for their nations.

Antetokounmpo played a crucial role in securing Greece's place in Paris by leading them to victory in one of the Olympic Qualifying Tournaments against Croatia. This will be his Olympic debut, as it will be the first time Greece’s men’s basketball team has competed in the Games since 2008.

Dennis Schröder captained Germany to an impressive 8-0 record in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, culminating in a gold medal victory over Serbia. They had previously defeated Team USA in the semifinals.

Schröder, who was named the TISSOT MVP, scored 28 points in the final and averaged 19.1 points and 6.1 assists throughout the tournament. This marks the third year of his three-year commitment to the national team, with high expectations as they head into the Paris Games.
