Scary Moment: Thunder Center Bismack Biyombo Collapses on Sideline during Win over Trail Blazers
During the game between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Portland Trail Blazers, center Bismack Biyombo experienced a concerning moment. In the first half of the Thunder's 128-120 victory, Biyombo took a few steps backward and appeared to collapse near the Thunder's bench at the Moda Center in Portland. His teammates and those nearby quickly called for assistance, expressing immediate concern for his well-being.
After spending some time on the ground, Bismack Biyombo managed to stand up and walk off the court unaided. The Trail Blazers' medical staff quickly assessed him and determined that there were no significant medical concerns. However, as a precautionary measure, the Thunder decided to keep him out of the game, even though he had not entered the game prior to collapsing. The team prioritized Biyombo's well-being and opted to err on the side of caution to ensure his health and safety.
Bismack Biyombo, initially drafted as the seventh overall pick in 2011, began the current season with the Memphis Grizzlies. He participated in 30 games for the team but was later waived before the trade deadline. Subsequently, the Oklahoma City Thunder signed him towards the end of last month. Throughout his 13-year career, Biyombo has averaged 4.6 points and 5.7 rebounds in a total of 34 games this season. The Thunder mark the sixth team he has played for in his professional basketball journey.
Despite the concerning incident involving Bismack Biyombo, the Oklahoma City Thunder managed to secure an eight-point victory in Portland. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the charge with an impressive 37-point performance, while Jalen Williams contributed 31 points on 9-of-17 shooting and Chet Holmgren recorded a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds. The Thunder displayed excellent shooting, with a team field goal percentage of over 58%.
Anfernee Simons led the Trail Blazers in scoring with 29 points and five assists, followed by Jerami Grant with 20 points and Duop Reath with 16 points and five rebounds. Unfortunately for Portland, they have now suffered back-to-back losses and hold a 17-44 record for the season.
Meanwhile, the Thunder have won two of their last four games and currently share the best record in the Western Conference with the Minnesota Timberwolves, both standing at 43-19. Their next game will be at home on Friday, commencing a four-game homestand against the Miami Heat.
