People often have not much interest when talking about Spain Tercera Division because this is considered a very small football tournament which has nothing special. However, as for a lot of Spanish footballers, contributing to competitions, even the small ones for their passion is always meaningful. Here below are some details of the Spain Tercera Group 1 and the Predictions for you guys who will never ignore any league in this country.
WHAT IS THE NOTION OF SPAIN TERCERA?
The position of Spain Tercera Division
Spain Tercera or Tercera División (English: Third Division) was founded in 1929. This is the fourth tier of the Spanish football league system, which is below the Primera División (La Liga Santander), the Segunda División ( La Liga SmartBank), and the semi-professional Segunda División B.
The History of Tercera Division
In the 1929–30 season, the Tercera Division was held. During its first season, the division featured 33 teams which were divided into eight groups. The eight group winners qualified for a play-off round. The most significant reorganization of the Division came at the start of the 1977–78 season. Segunda División B was revived and replaced the Tercera División as the third level. Thus, the Spain Tercera Division was down-leveled to the fourth tier of the Spanish football league system at that time.
From the 2021-22 season onwards, it will become the fifth tier and be renamed Tercera División RFEF because of the creation of a new third tier professional division by the Spanish federation (RFEF) called the Primera División RFEF.
What is the current format of the Tercera Division?
The current format has been made since 2006. The Tercera División features 360 teams which are divided into 18 regional groups, corresponding to the autonomous communities of Spain. Each group is managed by a regional football federation.
At the end of the season, the first 4 teams in each group qualify for promotion play-offs to decide which teams are promoted to Segunda División B. At least the three teams finishing bottom of each group may be relegated to the Divisiones Regionales de Fútbol. However, the number of teams relegated can be flexible. The 18 group champions also qualify for the following season's Copa del Rey. Along with teams from Segunda División B, the remaining teams from the division take part in the Copa Federación.
In the 2019–20 season, the promotion play-off rules were altered by an RFEF resolution after that season was suspended and later curtailed due to the Covid- 19 pandemic in Spain. Thus, the top 4 teams in each group at the time of suspension were deemed to qualify for the play-offs. It will be contested on a regional basis at neutral venues.
The 18 group winners were drawn against the fourth-place clubs while the 18 runners-up were drawn against the third-place clubs within their groups, all in two-legged series. The 36 first-round winners played single knock-out games in each of their regions and 18 teams from which were promoted to the Segunda División B. The 18 losing clubs will have got to play additional play-off rounds if possible for the remaining two spots in the third-tier division. That initially expanded to 100 teams divided into five groups of 20 and subdivided into 10 subgroups of 10 teams each, only for 2020–21.
At present, there are 397 teams participating in the Tercera Division in the 2020-21 season. They are divided into 18 groups which contain from 21 to 24 teams each.
