Gulácsi made his first appearance for Hungary in May 2008, when he was an unused substitute in a 1–1 draw with Croatia. In the FIFA U-20 World Cup penalty shootouts versus the Czech Republic, Gulácsi was Hungary's hero. He saved three penalties in a penalty shoot-out during the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup third-place match between Hungary and Costa Rica, guiding his team to victory and bronze medals. He was born in SFRJ but was never selected for the Serbian national team, thus he chose to play for Hungary instead.  He was involved in a 1–1 draw with Iceland at the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille on June 18, 2016, in which his run and far post drive was redirected in by Iceland for the last-minute equalizer.
