Arne Slot has secured both the Dutch league and cup titles during his tenure with Feyenoord.

Feyenoord's coach, Arne Slot, has publicly confirmed for the first time that he will be succeeding Jürgen Klopp as Liverpool's manager.

Although an agreement for Slot to replace Klopp has been in place for three weeks, there has been no official announcement, as Liverpool prepares to bid farewell to their legendary manager at Anfield on Sunday. However, during a press conference on Friday ahead of Sunday's match against Excelsior, Slot stated, "I can confirm that I will become the manager there next year."

"Until now, I wasn't thinking about this being the lead-up to my last match, but that's starting to sink in now," Slot continued. "At the beginning of the week, you're focused on training and such. But the sentiment is becoming stronger now. That's why I'm a bit delayed for this press conference, because I wanted to bid farewell to some people personally and spend some time with them, more than just exchanging handshakes."

"So yes, the sentiment is growing. I understand that good results help, but it's very gratifying to feel that people truly regret my departure," Slot added.

Liverpool is anticipated to formally announce the appointment next week, following the conclusion of Klopp's eight-and-a-half-year tenure against Wolves. Slot's contract and a compensation package with Feyenoord have been finalized, with the Dutch club set to receive €9m (£7.7m) plus €2m in add-ons.

Slot's assistant at Feyenoord, Sipke Hulshoff, is expected to join him at Anfield after resigning as the Netherlands' assistant coach this week to be available for Liverpool's pre-season training.

Feyenoord confirmed Slot's departure with a video on X, stating, "The Arne Slot era is coming to an end. Let's cherish the final moments."
