In response to concerns raised about the German national shirt's perceived resemblance to the symbol used by Nazi SS units during World War II, Adidas has implemented a ban on fans customizing the shirt with the number 44. The number has been associated with the SS due to its historical significance.

Historian Michael König was among the first to express concerns about the design of the kit, deeming it "very questionable." Additionally, the German away kit has generated controversy due to its pink color. Supporters argue that it represents Germany's diversity, while critics accuse the German Football Association (DFB) of prioritizing profit-making over tradition.

Adidas spokesperson Oliver Brüggen has denied any intentional resemblance of the kit to Nazi symbols, emphasizing the company's commitment to opposing xenophobia, antisemitism, violence, and hatred in all forms. As a result, Adidas has decided to block the personalization of the jerseys.

The SS rune, designed in 1929, has become synonymous with the heinous crimes committed by the Nazis. The SS were responsible for various atrocities, including guarding concentration camps, interrogating suspected traitors, and operating extermination camps like Auschwitz, where over a million people were murdered.

Controversy surrounding international football kits has been prevalent in recent weeks. England faced criticism for altering the St George's cross on the back of their shirt collar. Nike defended the changes, stating that the use of purple and navy alongside the traditional red represented inclusivity. However, critics claimed it was disrespectful and perceived it as an act of "virtue signalling."

The upcoming European Football Championship will be hosted by Germany, with matches held in ten different cities. The tournament will commence on June 14, featuring the host nation's match against Scotland.
