David Raya goes down for treatment vs Manchester City.

Mikel Arteta has stated that Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya is doubtful for Saturday's Premier League match against Leicester City.

The Spaniard sustained a muscle injury during the latter part of the Gunners' thrilling 2-2 draw at Manchester City last weekend, despite facing accusations of time-wasting. Raya went down in the closing moments of the match, and City's players were adamant that he was merely trying to run down the clock.

However, after being seen limping through the mixed zone at the Etihad Stadium with a bandage on his thigh, Arteta has confirmed that his £27 million signing is indeed dealing with an issue.

When asked about Raya's potential availability for the match against Leicester following a commanding 5-1 victory over Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup, Arteta said, "We don’t know yet. He’s got a muscular injury, so we need to check."

Raya was given the night off as 16-year-old Jack Porter made history by becoming the youngest goalkeeper to represent the Gunners. Porter is also the second-youngest player to feature for the club, following exciting attacking midfielder Ethan Nwaneri, who scored twice in the victory.

Arteta added about Porter: “We informed him yesterday, and he was over the moon. I think he spoke to his family, and they weren’t prepared for it. It’s a big step and a significant occasion for them, and I think they were a bit nervous about it.

“But I think he reacted really well, he was really composed yesterday in training and today as well. His team-mates really helped him as well on that. What an experience and what a way to break a record.”

Meanwhile, Jurrien Timber and Ben White are also dealing with fitness concerns. Timber felt discomfort in his thigh, while White is coping with slight knee pain, which is why he did not start against City.

When asked if the four teenagers who played against Bolton have school tomorrow, Arteta replied, “Yes, a few of them will have to be there! They were buzzing after the game; it was a nice moment as they got to speak with the players and thank them.”
