Wayne Rooney has begun his latest coaching position with Football Escapes in Dubai.

Less than two months after his latest dismissal, former Plymouth Argyle manager Wayne Rooney has embarked on a new coaching role—but not at the elite level of world football, or even with professional players.

Following his sacking on New Year's Eve, after Plymouth plummeted to the bottom of the Championship, Rooney wasted no time in finding his next venture. Just a week later, it emerged that the Manchester United legend would be heading to Dubai for a short residency, coaching children as part of the Football Escapes program at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel.

According to the hotel’s website, the experience combines “exciting football sessions with the luxurious yet family-friendly atmosphere of one of Dubai’s most iconic resorts.” While some Plymouth fans may raise an eyebrow, Jumeirah Beach Hotel promises “world-class coaching” from United’s all-time top scorer.

"While the children learn from one of football’s most celebrated players, parents can relax by the private beach, indulge in fine dining, or explore the many family-focused activities the resort has to offer," read the description. "From football coaching with a Premier League legend to relaxing in Dubai’s luxurious setting, this Football Escapes holiday strikes the perfect balance of fun, learning, and quality family time."

Rooney’s residency officially kicked off on Monday, marking the start of a week filled with sun, sea, and mingling with the well-heeled parents who can afford the exclusive football coaching experience. And securing a spot doesn’t come cheap.

According to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel website, a holiday package for a family of four costs between £7,500 and £8,650 on average. But then, it’s not every day that young players get the chance to train with one of the greatest forwards in Premier League history.

Despite his recent setbacks, the 39-year-old remains determined to continue his managerial career. Since returning to England in late 2023, he has overseen just 40 games—25 with Plymouth and 15 with Birmingham—both of which ended in dismissals.

His most notable coaching stint came at Derby County, where he spent nearly two years in charge. However, their relegation to League One was largely influenced by the club’s financial turmoil, having been in administration for most of his final season.

With a managerial win percentage of just 25.3%, Rooney's coaching career has yet to match the heights of his playing days. But a week in Dubai might just be the reset he needs to reignite his passion for management.
