Speed is one of the most crucial attributes for players aiming to reach the top of football, especially in the Premier League. No matter how skilled a player is, if they can’t keep up with the physical demands of England’s top division, they risk being outpaced by their more aggressive opponents.

The question of who holds the title of the fastest player is a regular debate at most clubs. For instance, while Kyle Walker takes pride in being Manchester City's speed king, last season’s stats suggested otherwise. This trend continues in the 2024/25 season, as Opta, via The Mirror, has revealed the fastest players from the opening rounds of the Premier League.

The top ten fastest Premier League players for the 2024/25 season begins with two North London rivals. Tottenham's Son Heung-min narrowly edges out Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli. The Brazilian winger, who faces competition for his starting spot from Leandro Trossard, has recorded a speed of 35.08 km/h this season, just behind Son's 35.13 km/h. Both are only slightly slower than Fulham's Antonee Robinson, who sits at 35.14 km/h after some intense sprints down the flanks.

Last season's speed king, Micky van de Ven, finds himself in seventh place this time around. Although he hit an impressive 37.38 km/h last season, he hasn't quite reached that pace yet. Wolves' Yerson Mosquera, known more for his on-field actions than his sprinting, rounds out the lower half of the list.

5. Marcus Rashford - 35.35 km/h

Manchester United

Marcus Rashford's goal-scoring form may have dipped recently, but his pace remains one of his most valuable assets, especially when he has space to exploit. At 26, the Manchester United forward is at his most dangerous when cutting in from the left wing, using his speed and agility to create chances for himself and his teammates.

Even when his finishing lacks consistency, Rashford's ability to stretch defences opens up opportunities for others around him. Though his current form hasn't yet transformed his fortunes at Old Trafford, his recent focus on private training might just bring back that sharp, relentless edge he's known for.

4. Cameron Archer - 35.47 km/h

Southampton

With a top speed of 35.47 km/h, Cameron Archer has quickly established himself as the fastest player at St Mary's, setting a standard for his new Southampton teammates. The Saints have struggled since their return to the Premier League, losing their first three matches, and Archer faces the possibility of back-to-back relegations, having experienced it last season with Sheffield United.

However, his blistering pace could be a crucial asset if utilized properly, offering a spark of hope in a difficult season. To make an impact, Archer will need to use his speed to find more goalscoring opportunities, taking inspiration from players like Jamie Vardy, who thrived in similar circumstances when Leicester were promoted.

3. Alejandro Garnacho - 35.48 km/h

Manchester United

Despite being one of the most exciting teenage talents in world football and a contender for the Kopa Trophy, Alejandro Garnacho isn't the first name that comes to mind when you think of Manchester United’s speedy wingers. Players like Amad Diallo and Marcus Rashford are more likely to take that spotlight.

However, the stats tell a different story. Garnacho has clocked the third-fastest time in the Premier League this season, proving that his speed is a key weapon. The Argentine, who earns £50,000 per week at Old Trafford, could become even more influential as he continues to harness his pace throughout the campaign.

2. Timo Werner - 35.69 km/h

Tottenham Hotspur

Timo Werner’s pace remains his most defining attribute, consistently leaving defenders in his wake. Now back in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur, the German international continues to burn past opponents with ease. However, while his blistering speed is unquestionable, his finishing remains unpredictable.

Werner has an undeniable talent for finding scoring positions, yet his final touch or decision-making can often let him down. Despite these inconsistencies, his sheer speed makes him a constant threat, creating relentless pressure on defences—precisely the kind of energy Ange Postecoglou seeks in his attacking setup.

1. Erling Haaland - 35.74 km/h

Manchester City

Erling Haaland is a cheat code. He’s quick, he’s strong, and he can finish from nearly any position on the pitch. After what some might have called a slightly underwhelming second season at Manchester City, the Norwegian has stormed back into top form with two hat-tricks in the opening three Premier League games.

This season, Haaland has been given more freedom to stretch his legs, clocking an impressive 35.74 km/h. And considering it still feels like he hasn’t even shifted into top gear, the prospect of what’s yet to come is truly frightening.
