Liverpool vs Wolves Highlights

With Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah scoring in the second half to lead Liverpool to a 2-0 victory over a resolute Wolves team at Anfield, they drew within six points of the top four teams in the Premier League. There was gloom and dread at Anfield following Liverpool's 5-2 humiliation at the hands of Real Madrid the previous week, but Jurgen Klopp's team entered their match against Wolves having picked up seven points from their past three league games without giving up a goal. And the Reds continued to play well due to two of the stars who have helped define Jurgen Klopp's time at Anfield. Virgil van Dijk ultimately scored the game's first goal in the 73rd minute when he headed home a cross from Diogo Jota.

As Salah converted a low ball from Kostas Tsimikas into the Wolves area just four minutes later to secure the victory, Liverpool moved up to sixth place while the visitors remained just three points above the relegation zone.

Liverpool vs Wolves Summary

Liverpool's entire priority for the next months of the season will be ensuring Champions League football for the following year because to the challenging challenge they face to keep their European campaign alive in the Bernabeu later this month and the fact that they are out of the FA Cup. The players Klopp currently has at his disposal have shown that they still have plenty to offer in the Premier League with three wins and a draw - plus four clean sheets - since their 3-0 thrashing at Wolves at the beginning of February. Klopp has acknowledged that changes to his squad will be necessary in the summer.

While Julen Lopetegui's team never appeared to replicate that result at Anfield, they did cause their hosts some early problems. Alisson just missed connecting with a Joao Moutinho drive and Pablo Sarabia narrowly missed Raul Jimenez's bicycle kick at the far post. There was an abnormally quiet mood at Anfield as the fans appeared to be waiting for their team to give them something to cheer about. Harvey Elliott missed a clear opportunity to put Liverpool ahead when he had a clean header from the center of the penalty area.

Liverpool vs Wolves Summary

In reality, Fabinho's escape from a red card and a VAR review in the 53rd minute when he stomped on Mario Lemina as the two midfielders competed for a loose ball certainly should have been the reverse. Although Darwin Nunez's deft finish in the 65th minute was overturned by VAR due to an unintentional foul on Max Kilman by Diogo Jota in the buildup, the Reds were not to be deterred. Following a Trent Alexander-Arnold free-kick, Van Dijk had his initial attempt blocked by Jose Sa, but he recovered quickly to meet Jota's cross before Salah received a similarly straightforward opportunity thanks to Tsimikas' driving assist.

Although a rematch against Real Madrid is on the horizon for Liverpool, their immediate attention will be on Sunday's match against an in-form Manchester United, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports. Their current domestic winning streak has given them much-needed confidence at a crucial point in the season.
