Erling Haaland has signed a bumper new contract with Manchester City.

Erling Haaland has signed an extraordinary nine-and-a-half-year contract, committing his future to Manchester City until the summer of 2034.

Haaland originally joined City from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022 on a deal set to expire at the end of the 2026/27 season. However, the Norwegian striker has now inked a lucrative new contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until he turns 34.

Since his arrival, Haaland has cemented his status as one of Europe’s premier strikers. He has netted an astonishing 111 goals in 126 appearances and has played a pivotal role in City’s success, helping the club secure two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, the Champions League, and the UEFA Super Cup.

Despite a more challenging season for both City and Haaland, the club has acted decisively to secure his long-term future. The 24-year-old has often been linked with a move to Real Madrid, a connection dating back to his time at Dortmund. However, City has made such a move significantly more difficult by reportedly removing the release clause from his new contract, according to The Athletic.

Although exact financial details remain undisclosed, the deal is understood to be one of the most lucrative in sports history. Haaland is reportedly very happy in Manchester, enjoying an excellent relationship with manager Pep Guardiola, the coaching staff, his teammates, and the club’s hierarchy.

The Norwegian forward has fully embraced life in the city, having recently moved into a new home and welcomed his first child, further solidifying his commitment to his long-term stay at Manchester City.

This season has been a challenging one for both Manchester City and Erling Haaland, though the prolific striker has still managed to score 21 goals across all competitions. Manager Pep Guardiola remains a staunch supporter of his star forward.

When asked about Haaland's relative struggles during the festive period, Guardiola emphasized the importance of the collective effort.

"It's about all of us, not just one player," Guardiola said. "In the past, when we scored goals and Erling was so prolific, it was because of the team. When there are issues at the back or in midfield, it affects everyone. It's a team effort; it's never just about one player.

“It would be easy if it was just one person, the reason why. It’s not about that. Erling is so important for us, will be so important for us, has been. [We have to] try to do things better, to use him better. In this situation, the tendency for all of us [is to say]: ‘The reason why is this one, and this one and this one.

“So it’s about us, about everyone. The guys are running, making more effort than ever. All the tendency [to explain this is]: ‘It’s because we don’t run, because we don’t fight, the reason why is this situation or this player or this manager.’

“It’s not about that. It’s many little details or big details that make us all together not as good as we were. But we have another opportunity on Boxing Day to try and win, time for the players to come back, and the uncertain time will be better.”
