The Paris Saint-Germain star was left on the bench and did not feature in France's international friendly against Germany. Deschamps clarified that Mbappe had sustained a Patellar tendon injury in his knee during a training session on Monday. He emphasized that the injury was not severe and that the decision to bench him was a precautionary measure.

Deschamps explained to L'Equipe channel after the Germany match, "Kylian has a patellar tendon issue following yesterday's training (Monday). It's not a serious problem, but it's causing discomfort and poses risks. So if he didn't start, it's because returning him wouldn't improve his condition."

Following a disappointing 4-1 loss to Japan in their previous friendly, which led to the dismissal of Hansi Flick as the national head coach, Germany bounced back strongly with a 2-1 victory over France. Thomas Muller and Leroy Sane scored for Germany, while Antoine Griezmann netted one for the French.
