The San Siro was originally set to host the 2027 Champions League final but was stripped of the rights last year, and UEFA now seems to have chosen a new venue.

The 2027 Champions League final has been moved.

The host venue for the 2027 Champions League final appears to have been leaked after the San Siro was stripped of its hosting rights. The iconic Italian stadium was initially announced as the venue in May 2024, alongside confirmation that Budapest’s Puskas Arena would stage the 2026 final.

However, in September, UEFA announced that the final would be relocated due to concerns over "refurbishment works," with a replacement venue expected to be confirmed by June 2025.

In a statement, UEFA explained: "As the Municipality of Milano could not guarantee that the San Siro stadium and its surroundings would not be affected by refurbishment works in the period of the 2027 UEFA Champions League final, it was decided not to assign the final to Milan and to re-open the bidding process to appoint a suitable venue, with a decision expected in May/June 2025."

Despite this, it now appears UEFA has already made its decision after Atletico Madrid's Metropolitano Stadium and Azerbaijan's Baku Olympic Stadium emerged as potential candidates.

Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president Rafael Louzan has now claimed that the Metropolitano is "guaranteed" to host the final.

Speaking to Marca, via Football Espana, Louzan said: "This year, Spain has the Europa League final at San Mames, we're also guaranteed the 2027 Champions League final at the Metropolitano in Madrid, and why not ask, with our support, for Seville to host one of the upcoming European finals in this stadium?

"I've met with [UEFA president Aleksander] Ceferin two or three times, and we'll ask him about the possibility of Seville hosting because we have the venue, the city, and a fantastic hotel infrastructure to accommodate events of this scale."

The Metropolitano last hosted the Champions League final in 2019, when Liverpool defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 with goals from Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi.

However, the stadium may not feature in the 2030 World Cup, which will primarily be hosted by Spain, Morocco, and Portugal, with Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay also staging select matches.

Initially, the Metropolitano was among 11 venues proposed by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), but Louzan has now revealed they are open to stepping aside in favor of Valencia’s Nou Mestalla.

"Atletico Madrid have said that, once again very generously, they would be willing, even if necessary, to give up their space so that Valencia could be one of the eleven venues currently granted to Spain," Louzan said.
