The football world has been rocked by the unprecedented points deduction imposed on Everton in the Premier League. The club, previously sitting in 14th place and relatively secure after 12 games, now finds itself second from bottom, narrowly above Burnley on goal difference. This decision, announced on November 17th, marks the first of its kind in the history of the league and has raised numerous questions and concerns.

The comparison being drawn now is with Manchester City, the reigning league champions who have dominated English football in recent years. With 115 charges pending against them, including allegations of financial misconduct, there is growing scrutiny and outrage surrounding their operations. The situation has reached a boiling point, fueled by social media backlash and accusations of "financial doping," as previously described by former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

It is worth noting that the charges against Manchester City were announced in February 2023, while Everton's case was confirmed to be going to an independent commission a month later. The order in which these outcomes have been made public has raised eyebrows, leading to unfounded claims of bribery and corruption. However, it is crucial to recognize that these cases are distinct and differ significantly in scale and nature.

Chelsea, at present, find themselves disconnected from the ongoing developments surrounding Everton's points deduction. Despite the recent buzz surrounding the club, a report from The Guardian has emerged, detailing allegations of misconduct during Roman Abramovich's ownership. The report suggests that funds were being directed towards offshore accounts, alongside questionable payments related to player transfers involving Willian and Samuel Eto'o. Further claims have been made against the club spanning the period from 2012 to 2019.

It is important to emphasize that despite the allegations and criticisms surrounding Chelsea, the club has not faced any charges from the Premier League, UEFA, or FIFA. While there may be speculation and scrutiny regarding the club's transfer activities and financial practices, it is crucial to note that no formal charges have been brought against Chelsea regarding these matters.

Indeed, the primary concern for Chelsea at the moment revolves around the allegations made against Roman Abramovich. Although the club has maintained that these allegations do not involve individuals presently associated with the club, there remains a possibility of repercussions. Earlier this year, Chelsea agreed to pay a fine of £8.57 million (€10 million) to UEFA for incomplete financial reporting during Abramovich's tenure. While this situation was unrelated to the actions of the current owners, Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, sanctions were still imposed. This highlights the potential for consequences to be handed down irrespective of the current ownership structure.

Until any official charges are made, any claims or discussions related to Abramovich should be viewed as mere allegations. It is important to remember this as Chelsea's name is being mentioned alongside City and Everton. While the Premier League is making efforts to discourage clubs from engaging in any wrongdoing, the statement regarding Everton serves as a clear warning to all involved. In this context, Chelsea may appear to be an easy target for scrutiny and criticism.

Currently, there are no charges or investigations against Chelsea or Abramovich. The club has taken steps to distance themselves from certain transactions during Abramovich's tenure and has reached out to the relevant parties to ensure transparency.

However, the history of Chelsea as big spenders under Abramovich's ownership, particularly during the successful period between 2003 and 2017, contributes to the ongoing narrative surrounding the club. While there have been allegations of wrongdoing, they are often taken out of context or inaccurately portrayed.

There may be questions about how Chelsea, having spent over £1 billion on new players, can still comply with regulations in recent transfer windows. However, since there are no charges, investigations, or immediate threat of sanctions, this matter is not currently a significant concern.
