10 Fastest Title Wins in Premier League History [Ranked]

Of all the teams to have claimed the prestigious Premier League title, which 10 secured their crown the earliest in a season?

Winning the Premier League is the ultimate achievement for any team in England’s top flight. While that dream is more realistic for some clubs than others, Leicester City’s remarkable 2015/16 triumph proved that, in theory, any team can make a run for the crown.

Despite the fierce competition, only a limited number of clubs have ever hoisted the famous trophy. The most entertaining title races — at least from a neutral's perspective — are the ones that go down to the wire, with two or more contenders pushing each other right to the final weekend.

However, not every season follows that script. In several campaigns, the eventual champions have dominated from early on and never looked back, often clinching the title well before the last matchday. With Liverpool on the brink of wrapping up the 2024/25 title weeks ahead of schedule, it's the perfect time to ask: which 10 clubs in Premier League history have secured the title the earliest?

10. Manchester City - 35 games played

2022/23 season

Manchester City entered the season as reigning champions and hit the ground running, losing just once in their opening 10 league fixtures. It set the tone for what would become a historic campaign, as Pep Guardiola’s side went on to complete a remarkable treble — becoming just the second English club ever to achieve the feat.

City lifted the FA Cup, the Champions League, and of course, the Premier League. While Arsenal mounted a strong title challenge and kept the pressure on for much of the season, City’s depth and attacking quality ultimately proved decisive. A commanding 3-0 victory over Everton in mid-May sealed the title with three games to spare.

9. Manchester City - 35 games played

2020/21 season

Manchester City’s domestic dominance in the 2022/23 season wasn’t the first time they had clinched the Premier League title with three games to spare — they pulled off the same feat just two years earlier in 2020/21.

During that campaign, Pep Guardiola’s side went on an astonishing unbeaten run across all competitions, avoiding defeat for 82 consecutive days between December 2020 and March 2021. While they fell just short in the Champions League final and reached the FA Cup semi-finals, their league form was unmatched. No Premier League side truly threatened their crown, with city rivals Manchester United finishing second — a full 14 points adrift.

8. Chelsea - 35 games played

2014/15 season

The 2014/15 season marked the second year of José Mourinho’s return to the Chelsea dugout, having rejoined the club in 2013. After finishing just four points behind Manchester City in his first season back, the Portuguese tactician strengthened his squad with key signings like Diego Costa and Cesc Fàbregas.

Mourinho’s revamped side proved dominant, losing just three Premier League matches all season. Chelsea wrapped up the title with three games to spare, finishing eight points clear of second-placed Manchester City and ending the campaign on 87 points.

7. Chelsea - 35 games played

2004/05 season

While José Mourinho did secure a Premier League title during his second spell at Chelsea, it’s his first tenure at the club that remains the most iconic. Appointed in 2004 fresh off a stunning Champions League triumph with Porto, Mourinho wasted no time making his mark on English football.

In his debut campaign, Chelsea lost just once in 38 league matches as they surged to their first top-flight title in 50 years. Their dominance was built on an extraordinary defensive foundation—conceding only 15 goals across the entire season, a Premier League record for the fewest goals allowed in a single campaign that still stands to this day.

6. Arsenal - 34 games played

2003/04 season

The 2003/04 season is etched in football history as the year Arsenal achieved the unthinkable—going an entire Premier League campaign unbeaten. Known as The Invincibles, Arsène Wenger’s legendary side, featuring icons like Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, and Patrick Vieira, racked up 26 wins and 12 draws to claim the third Premier League title of Wenger’s reign.

Their dominance stretched beyond just one season, as they pieced together an astonishing 49-game unbeaten run in the league. By the end of April 2004, the Gunners had already wrapped up the title with four games to spare, finishing the campaign with both the most prolific attack and the stingiest defence in the division.

5. Manchester United - 34 games played

1999/00 season

Fresh off their historic European treble, Manchester United entered the 1999/2000 season with a point to prove—and once again showed their dominance on the domestic front. While they didn't replicate their treble heroics, it was hardly a shortcoming that could be held against Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.

Despite a season that featured turbulence in goal following Peter Schmeichel’s exit—marked by underwhelming performances from both Mark Bosnich and Massimo Taibi—United still mounted strong campaigns across multiple competitions, though they exited the Champions League at the quarter-final stage.

In the Premier League, however, the Red Devils were a class above the rest. They stormed to their sixth league title in just eight seasons, sealing the trophy with four games to spare and finishing a staggering 18 points clear of second-placed Arsenal.

4. Manchester United - 34 games played

2012/13 season

In what proved to be the final chapter of Sir Alex Ferguson’s legendary managerial career, Manchester United etched their name into the history books by becoming the first club to win 20 English top-flight titles. Having narrowly lost out to Manchester City the previous season in dramatic fashion, the Red Devils were driven by a renewed determination to reclaim their throne.

Led by the prolific Robin van Persie—signed from rivals Arsenal—United won 28 of their 38 league fixtures, dominating the campaign from start to finish. The title was wrapped up by the end of April, and just weeks later, Ferguson brought the curtain down on an iconic era with one final Premier League crown.

3. Manchester City - 33 games played

2017/18 season

The 2017/18 season saw Manchester City make history as the first—and still only—Premier League side to reach the 100-point mark in a single campaign. Nicknamed the "Centurions," Pep Guardiola’s men set a benchmark for domestic dominance that has yet to be surpassed.

City won 32 of their 38 league matches, a feat that has only been equalled but never bettered. Their relentless run included an astonishing 18 consecutive victories, as they blew the competition away and sealed the title with five games to spare. A last-gasp 1-0 win over Southampton on the final day put the perfect finishing touch on a record-breaking campaign.

2. Manchester United - 33 games played

2000/01 season

Coming into the 2000/01 season on the back of two consecutive Premier League triumphs, Manchester United showed no signs of slowing down as they continued their reign over English football. Veteran forward Teddy Sheringham led the scoring charts for the Red Devils in what proved to be his final season at the club, with Ruud van Nistelrooy waiting in the wings for the next chapter.

Despite losing their last three league matches, United had already wrapped up the title with room to spare. They ended the campaign with 24 wins and eight draws, becoming the first team in Premier League history to clinch three titles in a row.

1. Liverpool - 31 games played

2019/20 season

Liverpool didn’t just end a 30-year wait for a league title in the 2019/20 season—they did it in record-breaking fashion. The Reds mathematically secured the Premier League crown after just 31 matches, the fastest title win in English top-flight history, during a campaign that was briefly paused due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Adding to their success, Liverpool also lifted the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup, becoming the first team ever to win the Premier League in the month of June. They wrapped up the season with 99 points, claiming 32 victories and three draws, finishing a staggering 18 points ahead of second-placed Manchester City.
