Dwight Yorke thinks Liverpool could lure Cole Palmer away from Chelsea in the future.

Dwight Yorke doesn’t believe Cole Palmer will push to leave Chelsea if they miss out on the top four—but he can see the England star making a move to Liverpool in the future.

Palmer, 22, has been one of the Premier League’s standout young players since his switch from Manchester City last summer, registering more goal contributions (33) than any other player during the 2023-24 season.

However, Chelsea have struggled this campaign, and Enzo Maresca’s side find themselves fighting for a Champions League spot, with Palmer currently enduring a seven-match goal drought.

While some have speculated that Palmer could seek an exit if Chelsea fail to secure a top-four finish, Yorke doesn’t see that happening. However, he does believe that if Mohamed Salah were to leave Liverpool, the Reds could make a move for the Chelsea star.

Speaking to CasinoBeats, Yorke said: “He doesn’t strike me as the kind of player who would demand a transfer just because he’s not in the Champions League for one season.

“He’s still very young, he’s gone to Chelsea and turned his career around, becoming their main man. Why would he walk away from that?

“Where else could he go and be the top player and the main man? Liverpool? Maybe Manchester United—he’s said he’s a United fan—but that won’t happen because he’s a City lad. Arsenal? No, because Bukayo Saka is there.

“Liverpool might be an option if Mo Salah leaves, so that’s something to watch out for.”

Salah’s future at Anfield remains uncertain, despite enjoying one of the most prolific seasons of his career. With over 50 goal contributions in all competitions, he remains Liverpool’s talisman.

Yorke believes Palmer holds a similarly vital role at Chelsea, which could ultimately persuade him to stay rather than seek a move to Merseyside.

The former Manchester United striker added: “There’s no reason why it couldn’t happen if Mo Salah were to leave. Otherwise, why would he want to leave Chelsea?

"He’s the top man at the club. He plays week in, week out. Yes, the Champions League is important. If we keep missing out on Champions League, only then does it become a problem for Cole Palmer. Next year, if Chelsea come back, work hard, and make sure they can qualify for the Champions League and compete for the Premier League, then everything is happy for Palmer.

"I genuinely believe that the only club that could tempt him would be Liverpool, and even then, they would have to let Salah go first."
