Kylian Mbappe's departure from Paris Saint-Germain last week has set the stage for his imminent move to Real Madrid. After a remarkable seven-year stint at PSG, clinching six league titles, Mbappe and his high-profile team fell short of Champions League glory, notably losing the 2020 final to Bayern Munich.

Having expressed his desire to leave last summer, Mbappe was notably excluded from PSG's pre-season expedition to Asia. While Premier League clubs expressed interest, the first tangible offer came from Saudi outfit Al Hilal, who proposed a staggering €300 million transfer fee to PSG along with an unprecedented €700 million salary package for Mbappe.

Despite this enticing offer, Mbappe remained steadfast in his childhood dream of donning the white jersey of Real Madrid, thus turning down the move. His forthcoming integration into the illustrious ensemble at the Bernabeu Stadium, alongside luminaries such as Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr, is poised to be finalized in the impending weeks.

How much have PSG paid Mbappe?

Mbappe's financial trajectory during his tenure with the Qatari-owned Parisian powerhouse has been nothing short of staggering.

Upon his initial arrival at PSG in 2017 on loan from Monaco, Mbappe was already commanding a hefty €18 million per annum. This sum remained consistent upon the transition to a permanent deal the following season.

The zenith of Mbappe's earning potential reached new heights in 2019, catalyzed by France's triumph in the World Cup held in Moscow. In recognition of his burgeoning star status, PSG promptly nearly doubled his salary to approximately €32 million annually.

However, it was in 2022, amidst fervent transfer speculation linking him to Real Madrid, that PSG sought to fortify their bond with the French sensation. An eye-watering contract extension ensued, featuring a jaw-dropping annual salary of €72 million. But the largesse didn't stop there; the contract was embellished with a €180 million signing-on bonus dispersed over three years, coupled with an annual loyalty payment of €70 million. This culminated in Mbappe raking in an astonishing €400 million in his final two seasons at PSG alone.

In totality, PSG is estimated to have disbursed a staggering €600 million (approximately £515 million before tax) throughout Mbappe's illustrious seven-year tenure at the club.

How much will he earn at Real Madrid?

Mbappe's impending move to Real Madrid has been an open secret in the football world since February, though the formalities of the contract remain pending, delaying the official announcement. With his PSG tenure concluding at the end of June, he's poised to become a free agent on July 1.

While reports on his salary negotiations vary, it's widely anticipated that Mbappe will accept a substantial reduction in wages upon his transfer to Spain. Madrid's well-documented financial constraints render them unable to match the lavish salaries prevalent in Paris or Saudi Arabia. Nonetheless, Mbappe is expected to command an annual salary of no less than €15 million, alongside a generous signing-on bonus of €150 million.

Beyond the financial aspect, Mbappe's camp is keenly aware of the exponential increase in his marketing potential upon joining the ranks of the world's most illustrious football club. Donning the iconic white jersey previously worn by legends such as Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane, Kaka, and Ronaldo Nazario promises to elevate Mbappe's global brand. However, in comparison to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, who boast off-field earnings ranging from €50 million to €100 million, Mbappe's current figure hovers closer to €20 million, highlighting an area ripe for growth.

What is Mbappe’s net worth?

Mbappe's reported net worth stands at approximately €160 million, a considerable sum yet notably eclipsed by the towering fortunes of Messi and Ronaldo, each estimated at around €600 million. However, with plenty of years ahead in his burgeoning career, Mbappe possesses ample opportunity to narrow this financial disparity and solidify his status among the elite earners in football.

How does Mbappe compare with other sports?

LeBron James holds the distinguished title of the all-time NBA points scorer, amassing an impressive $531 million in lifetime NBA earnings. Tom Brady, over his remarkable 23-season career, has garnered $330 million. Meanwhile, Tiger Woods, boasting 15 major championship victories, has earned $160 million in career PGA Tour earnings to date.

Despite these staggering figures, Tiger Woods' substantial off-field earnings have propelled his net worth to approximately €800 million. This places Mbappe in a position where he must strive to bridge the gap. Currently, Mbappe's net worth aligns more closely with sports luminaries such as Rory McIlroy and Conor McGregor, indicating room for growth as he continues to ascend in his career.
