The late Sunday match in Serie A-matchweek 6 between Juventus and Salernitana ended with a dramatic and emotional 2-2 draw. Despite trailing by 2 goals in the first-half, Juventus showed their class when Bonucci sealed a late draw for the home team, and four red cards in stoppage time was the late highlight of the game.

Juventus 2-2 Salernitana:

Juventus entered the game with the highest determination to win after their hard-fought 1-2 defeat to Paris Saint-German in the UEFA Champions League last week and also due to their troublesome start with only one victory after five games in the 2022-23 Serie A before this match. Last season, Allegri’s team beat the rival 2-0 in both matches, so they had been expected a comfortable win over the away team, who had been regarded as underdogs in this game.

However, in the context that the injury list of the home team was so long with the new additions of Adrien Rabiot and Manuel Locatelli, along with Angel Di Maria, Paul Pogba, Federico Chiesa, Wojciech Szczesny, and Kaio Jorge before, the visitors were ready to make magic. In the first 45 minutes, although Juventus dominated the game with numerous opportunities created in front of Sepe’s goal, the discipline of the defense as well as the excellence of the goal keeper prevented Bianconeri from taking the lead.

In the 18th minute, midfielder Candreva suddenly gave the guests a lead with a close-range tap-in after receiving Mazzocchi’s cross from the edge of the penalty area.

After the conceded goal, Juventus were still struggling to find the way to the rival’s goal. Striker Vlahovic put the ball in the net with a low shot, but he was caught offside.

Salernitana gave a shock 2-0 half-time lead when they were awarded a penalty in a situation where defender Gleison Bremer used his hand to block Piate’s shot, and striker Krzysztof made it 2-0 to the guests with a precise finish.

Juventus made some tactical changes in the second-half when pressed high up the field, in an attempt to avoid their first Serie A defeat. In the 51st minute, it was Bremer who redeemed his first-half mistake with a wonderful header to fire home.

It was not until stoppage time that Juventus were awarded a penalty after Tonny Vilhena illegally tackled Juven defender Alex Sandro in the box. Although Bonucci failed to score on his first attempt from the spot, his rebound after that was successful to equalize for Bianconeri.

In the 90+5th minute, substitute Arkadiusz Milik brought Juventus’s fans into a state of euphoria when his glancing header on the corner put the ball into the net. The Poland striker thought that his goal had helped his side win the game at the death, so he took off his shirt to celebrate wildly at the expense of his second yellow card. Ironically enough, that goal was ruled out as VAR determined that Bonucci, who was offside, took part in the situation despite not technically touching the ball. This controversial decision sparkled a sidelined brawl between the two teams, leading to the red cards for Juan Cuadrado, Federico Fazio, and coach Max Allegri.

Arkadiusz Milik was sent of in stoppage time

With this result, Juventus dropped to the 8th on the Serie A 2022-23 table with 10 points behind the top 3 (Napoli, Atalanta, and AC Milan), While Salernitana were 3 points behind them and ranked in the 10th position.
